HOW TO INSTALL BANNERLORD MODS (The Simple & Lazy Way)

This is how I install Bannerlord mods. The simple and lazy way.
If you're lazy and/or couldn't find the module unblocker tool, here it is: www.nexusmods....
One last piece of advice: Please check the download page for the various requirements that the specific mod has, some need Harmony, others need Butterlib and so on. You'll be having fun in no time if you just take the installation process in a slow and methodical manner!

OMG Thank you for putting out this "mods for dummies" video, I've been really hesitant to even dabble in non steam workshop mods for this game because I've experienced so many headaches with mods in general. (still love mods though, they make pc gaming incredible) I assumed with different platforms it would induce 200% more headache but to my complete surprise, it didn't at all. I don't know why, but Steam mods don't show up on that modules folder (at all) and because of that, I always assumed it had a totally different method of doing the mods....but it really doesn't. I FINALLY got to use some mods I've been jealous of because they weren't on Steam and low and behold, they work just fine. (barring the usual mod vs. game version conflicts that all mods endure) You have done me a great service and I thank you greatly! Long live the Reformist!

You’re a goat for this video bro. I didn’t even think this was my problem, as I had used mods before from nexus using the gamepass version of the game and it was fine. Now I got the steam version, and the steam workshop mods worked fine but the mods off nexus weren’t loading. This video has helped so I can launch the game with all the mods. Here’s to hoping they all work. A lot of them have been updated in the past few months so I’m optimistic. Thanks again bro

I can't get the mod launcher to work... What did you do to actually get your mods to show up? I've extracted all the mods and added them like the video says. I downloaded all the required mods for them to all work. I downloaded the launcher file for the mods. I even unblocked all the files manually so my computer wouldn't skip them... Still the launcher won't load and the mods aren't recognized on the regular launcher. I even tried vortex but they must've gotten rid of this game because they can no longer manage the mods. What did you do to get it to work?

Bannerlord can be very fickle when modding unfortunately. I’d recommend checking each mod individually and seeing if their versions match the game. You can change the game version through Steam’s properties menu for the game. Hope this helps!

@@syborsnake136 open the click the mod in files then it should have another zip folder with mod name that’s what I opened up I dragged them out of the files and opened them on Home Screen then when they verified I put them In my module folder then ran the unblock and it worked for me just a bunch of trial and error

Launcher used is personal preference, some people like Butrloader launcher, others like Novus launcher. Use what you prefer! :)

@@ReformistTM I reinstalled everything. I also reinstalled Butler launcher and loaded from the shortcut that I made. I also went To the model file And put in model unblocker. It’s still not working.. When I load up the game, I get the screen saying version 1.211 which I believe is the current version and that’s the one that he says is compatible with the Settlement mod. I don’t know I feel I’m doing it right but when I look on Vortex under mods I see that harmony is listed as version 2.3.3.207 and also the BLSE shows the 1.5.70. Also player settlement shows 5.1.0.

Also to let you know what version I’m playing when I go to the steam and under mountain blade Bord two I right click go to properties go to BETAS and it says Bata Participation , on the right side. There is a tag where you can change which beta right now it is at None. I also tried scrolling down to version v1.2.11-v1.2.11 that didn’t work either.

I’m having trouble downloading the module unblocker. I downloaded it, unzipped it, and put the module file in the module folder for Bannerlord. But when I open it, none of that have the .bat like yours does. And when I click on it nothing happens, I have to double click it, but even then, every time I try to use the mod I’m trying to download it still crashes, so I don’t think it’s unblocking the files.

Okay so I just downloaded the mod unblocker that's linked in the description (same one I've used for years now) and upon opening the zip folder, I see a folder called "modules" and inside that folder, I have another one called "ModuleUnblocker" and opening that up, I see 3 files named "ModuleUnblocker.bat" - "ModuleUnblockerAll.bat" - and a readme txt file. You don't see those bat files at all? If not, you may need to change your view settings in Windows. I'd recommend navigating to File Explorer (if on Windows 10) and doing the following: Open File Explorer from the taskbar. Select View > Options > Change folder and search options. Select the View tab and, in Advanced settings, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives and OK. If that doesn't allow you to see the bat files then I'm not sure how to advise you. The bat files should be included in the download in the description. Just to confirm: You are on Windows? Also if the mod unblocker wasn't working as you didn't have the bat files, then your mods wouldn't be unblocked unless you went through and did them all manually. You can check if they're unblocked by navigating to their "properties" menu and selecting the "security" tab and if it says: "This file is blocked due to security concerns" or similar thing then it's still blocked.

Hey do I need to unsubscribe from steam mods and download their nexus versions for the nexus mods to work properly or can I mix between them without issue? For example if I have harmony, butterlib, or even mylittlewarband from steam, will they work properly if I download mods that may depend on them from nexus website?

It's probably best to download Harmony, Butterlib and those kinds of mods manually like shown in this video. But if you choose to use Steam workshop, I'd recommend sticking to only those to avoid possible compatibility issues.

Is this a Steam issue? Because I use the GOG version and never had any issues requiring unblocking of files, just unzip the mod in the folder, activate it in the launcher and it works. (If it's for the same game version, of course)

Some files do get unblocked automatically when unzipping. EDIT: It depends on the zipping format used I believe.

Place the module unblocker in the same location as your mods in the game folder and run it, and all files should be unblocked. Hope this helps! :)

Recommend disabling ExpandedArmoury BL. Might be causing a conflict with open source armoury. If that doesn’t help, try disabling each mod one by one to find out which is causing the problem. I’m sure you’ve done this but are all the mods the correct version for the game? And every mod has been unblocked in the properties menu? Hype you get it working! :)

This installation guide works 100% -- the issue is something to do with the mods you have installed. Please do the following: Disable each mod one by one, and launching the game. Go through to the point where it may or may not crash. If it doesn't crash, then you've found the mod that was incompatible. If it does crash, continue disabling mods until the game works again, then re-enable each mod except the one causing the problem. Re-launch the game then check if it crashes again. This is indeed a laborious process but the only way to be sure which mod will work with the Bannerlord version you're attempting to run. Please also make sure you are running the correct version of each mod for the Bannerlord version you're running. Navigating to your Steam library, right clicking on Bannerlord and selecting "properties" then "betas" will take you to a dropdown menu which should allow you to select the version you want to play on. You said "All the mods are compatible" but is that really the case? Have you double-checked each one to make sure the version you have installed is compatible with the game version, as well as being compatible with each other? Also please check to make sure you're using the correct version of Harmony as well as any other mod dependencies you have installed. Bannerlord is a very fickle game where even small updates can break entire mods.

If you've extracted all the mods from their zip folders correctly and only the launcher isn't working, I'd recommend using "Novus Launcher" instead: www.nexusmods.com/mountandblade2bannerlord/mods/4924 If the launcher isn't coming up at all, it has something to do with that so I'd start with installing this launcher (follow the steps on the launcher download page).

I need to know the complex way, because there is no way to manually unblock them. It never tells me they are blocked.

The manual way is to go to each file inside a mod's download folder and click "properties" and find the "security" tab and under that should be the option to "unblock this file". But you have to do that for each and every file and if you miss one, it won't work. If it doesn't say anything about "unblock this file" then the mod isn't blocked to begin with. Some file unzippers automatically handle that.

The bin of Bannerlord or the mod? Try installing "better exception window" mod and that might tell you the problem. Hope this helps!

It depends on the mod but generally not. I'd recommend testing it out! I use a few mods that are very outdated like SuperSpeed but they work just fine, however they don't add any items or change anything drastically in-game. So it's on a case by case basis.

Are you running the game in the correct version for the mods you have installed? Each mod needs to be compatible with the game version. Are you running the unblocker mod and making sure that mod is placed in the modules folder when you run it?

@@ReformistTM oh you scholar and gentleman, all of my mods were outdated. i guess i assumed they'd auto update since literally every other loader does that. but im reading through the mod pages and their stating "ButterLib's and BEW Crash Reporters are broken by TW. We are not able to do something here via ButterLib, so we suggest to download BLSE v1.4.0 or higher from NexusMods to make Crash Reports work again!"

I recommend checking on each individual mod page what version of the game they support. If they don't support the game version you want to use, you'll either have to disable the mod or use something to replace it unfortunately. Using BLSE launcher or Novus launcher is a good way to start reducing problems. Try removing all mods except one, then slowly re-enable them and you'll soon find out which one is the problem. However, still check the versions on the download pages first.

When launching the game from Steam, a launcher should pop up and there should be a menu called "mods" which you can select and then drag around the mods to change their load order. I recommend using BLSE which is a community-made launcher but that is more complicated to install. This is the load order for ROT: ROT-Core ROT-Content ROT-Map ROT-Dragon

The version number of Bannerlord needed should be on the description page of the mod. If not, best to look at when the mod was last updated: if it was updated years ago then it may not work with the current version of the game but some mods still do so it depends on what kind of mod it is, whether it’s something lightweight or something that adds more complex systems.

The mod should show up as long as it is placed in the module folder. Make sure to check you’ve extracted it from zip file.

If it doesn't show any message where I showed the "unblock", then that file is already unblocked naturally and you should be good to go. Some file unzipper programs unblock the files automatically so the user doesn't need to do it manually.

Okay so you placed the mod folder inside the "modules" folder within the Bannerlord mother directory and also made sure the version of your game is compatible with Europe 1100 (this is where most Bannerlord mods see issues). On Steam it is possible to right click on the game in your library and select "properties" > "betas" > select the version you want to use so the mod is compatible. But I am not sure if this is possible on PC game pass. I'm not sure what "sync pending" means, I've not experienced PC game pass at all. It surely must be possible to mod with PC game pass. If Europe 1100 is up to date with the latest version of Bannerlord then it should work without any issues. Have you run the module unblocker? I think it may be that the version is the culprit of the problem here and if you can find a way to change Bannerlord's version to the one that is compatible with Europe 1100, you should be able to get it working.

Its a shame game like this, in modern age of gaming and its struggling to find simple solutions for mods, i tryed vortex mods my mods dont load, i tryed this method my game crashing and my mod manager says ,,files are corrupted or incomplete " so i dont know how you manage to run this but i dont have any patience for the game anymore, yeah i know some times its not simple with mods but its the most frustrating game i encountered in my life and believe me i use mods everythere,skyrim stalker total war but yet bannerlord is the worst

I'd recommend using a program called "7-Zip" to extract the files to your Bannerlord folder. It's a lot better at keeping them complete than WinRAR. And then follow the video step by step and it should work just fine! Please note that the mods and game version must be compatible, so a mod that runs on Bannerlord 1.2.0 won't work on Bannerlord version 1.2.8 for example (unless it's a very lightweight mod).

Can you tell me what you're trying to install? Have you tried to disable each mod individually in sequence and trying to launch from there? Are all the mods installed the correct version for the game itself? You can try selecting a specific game version from the "properties" menu on Steam and the dropdown menu on "betas". I'll try to help as best as I can!

Unfortunately not as yet. But we can only hope the developers implement some kind of modding for consoles. As it is, it's PC only for mods at the moment.
