When you tightened the screws to suck in the wings (4:10), it mistook that you were using the plastic flanges on the Wingits to pull the wings apart while screwing in the machine screw. Mine cracked when I tried that. Those plastic flanges on the Wingits are good for keeping the them from being pushed into the abyss behind the wall by the screws, but not meant for pulling the wings apart, especially when there is a wire mesh covering the back of the wall. The wings get pulled open after bars are in place with their sturdy metal flanges. In my case I also had to trim my wings about 5mm with a rotary tool due to the larger depth of my backer board. Thanks for the helpful video!

Thank you Allen, great video! This gave me the confidence to install a grab bar in our shower. I bought a 36" Delta grab bar at ACE and then did my research online to figure out how to install. Your video was perfect. I watched another video where the use blue paint tape to make all your measurements on and this helped me a lot and protected my tiles when I slipped with the diamond hole saw. The hardest part for me was starting on the angle with the hole saw which you seem to be quite efficient at. I did get a little better with each hole. I did notice that the grab bar you used lined up with top and bottom holes on the template, with my delta bar the top and bottom holes were offset to match the correct distance with the wingit template. This cause me some hesitation and fear, but after triple measurements I finally decided to go for it and everything lined up perfectly. Thanks again for taking the time to put this video together!

@@handymanjourney Just a note for anyone who has not done this before, we used the Wing-Its on the first bar and it went very well. I also had purchased Snap Toggles and used them on the second bar, it went just fine also. Then on the 3rd bar, again using Toggles I got off my mark just a bit drilling the holes. It took a while to correct the problem, so what I wanted to convey, if you don't use the Wing-Its which have the template for where to drill the holes, perhaps make a templet and avoid the problem I encountered. My magic marker mark got smudged and I veered.:( Alas, all was well at the end. :)

Great video. I followed it and was successful at the end. The most challenging part was to align both holes to match the Winglets (verticality spaced accurately). There are hardly any vertical adjustments on the grab bars. I actually ended up enlarging the grab bar holes to allow the screw be mounted straight into the winglets. Any suggestion as how to avoid that? I still have 3 more to install on my parents showers. I was right on target using the templates.

I thought this looked like something I could myself, so when I was with my 90 yr old dad, in Florida, I set to use this method. Turned out to be a disaster because, in Florida, the external walls are made with concrete.. They put slats on the concrete and attach the wallboard to the slats. This means there is only a 3/4 inch space behind the wallboard which means any method that relies on a space behind the wallboard will not work. So frustrating!
