Best installer I’ve seen so far. Feel like I’m learning from my old journeyman tile setting. The little details are actually the biggest. The cuts, the gaps. So many things that will kill your job and confidence. So glad I found this channel for a reference. I always wanted to learn how to install carpet but in commercial everyone has switched to carpet tile so I kind of missed out. Thank you brother. Keep on doing your thing. You got another subscriber.

The dip in a cushion seam is real. I have felt that in carpet before. Not sure if it’s lazy or smart but I have gone to just taping my cushion seams. Almost every time we use a moisture barrier so that is called for but even on my non-Moisture barrier Carpet Cushion I tape the seam. It almost always happens I drag the carpet around and the stinking seam pulls out of the staples.
@FloorsbySouthernboys
@FloorsbySouthernboys 3 жыл бұрын
Taping in your seams is not good long-term , I know it is required on moisture barrier pad but on traditional pad it’s not a good idea, the tape will prevent your pad from breaking down as the rest of the pad breaks down and then you will have a hump Where your tape is over a few years time as the surrounding pad wears out the taped pad will still be in good shape and thicker

@@FloorsbySouthernboys i dont think i have come across that situation where the taped area is in better shape than rest of pad. Everything we do tear out. It's always just as wore down than the rest of it. But i wonder if colorado weather has something to do with it

Using a regular width 7/8” tack strip, we deduct 10% from the carpet yardage to account for pad. If using a 1-1/4 wide tack you think 12% deduction is accurate? Lastly, you mentioned never to run carpet / pad seams in the same direction, but what if the room is 19'.4" x 36' and the carpet and felt pad is 12-ft wide? We were going to have 3 drops.
@FloorsbySouthernboys
@FloorsbySouthernboys 3 жыл бұрын
Just cut a couple feet off of your role of pad and add it to the other end of the brown and that will offset your seems, And I will order the same amount of pad as you do carpet, however you will use just a fraction less but I would not go 10% less

Do you stretch underlay at all or is there any stretch in the underlay you use.I was always taught to stretch and staple before you cut so it doesn’t move when u are cutting.I know u cut first so it’s an easy fix but I’d say that if u stretch and staple first it will prevent you from cutting short.

I run the underlay whichever way is easier and I join on underlay seams as long as the are even and together there is no problem. Only with dual bond would I make sure the seam is 6 inch away from the underlay seam. But the heat bond tape stops any dipping.
