I would’ve done the seem in half half time it took you to trace the line in the back. Run row use your top cutter. Then use your top cutter with the blade on the outside to cut the bottom carpet and you’re done. Would literally take about 45 seconds to cut.

Can you add the seam tape on top of the carpet pad?
@Angel283
@Angel283 4 жыл бұрын
If the seam is in the middle of the room ( think doublewide trailer ) do you seam it and then stretch it to the wall or other way around. I don't have a power stretcher only a knee bump. Thanks!!
@cluelessgamer8136
@cluelessgamer8136 4 жыл бұрын
I use a kicker one side and nail it, then do the other, then seam it. Prevents raising. I would never seam a carpet like this dude did, even for a doorway.
@Angel283
@Angel283 4 жыл бұрын
@@cluelessgamer8136 Well I did it like this guy with the same iron 10 dollars from walmart, and it worked GREAT!!! There is one spot that didn't match up perfectly but it was cut crooked and patched with a one inch to 1/4 inch wedge shape piece and the carper is 18 years old. I put a rug over that part. It looks fine.
@cluelessgamer8136
@cluelessgamer8136 4 жыл бұрын
I was a bit harsh...sorry :) The way you did it is *probably* fine, I just get paranoid about it. I'll go into houses a year or two after someone seamed an area and it is "bubbled up". That is, the seam becomes obvious over time when walking over it. I don't know if the person before simply did it incorrectly or what, but I don't want to get called back and have to do free work...
@cluelessgamer8136
@cluelessgamer8136 4 жыл бұрын
So what I do, with a kicker (I don't have a power stretcher and never found it necessary) is stretch the carpet to the walls and tack it down. Then for the doorway I put down some kind of level sealer, like drywall mud (if we are talking about closing up a double-wide). After that sets I kick one side of the doorway and nail it down (the nails get pulled out of course. Then I kick the other side, nail it and do the seam. All this is probably overkill, but it means that nobody bothers me later :)
@cluelessgamer8136
@cluelessgamer8136 4 жыл бұрын
Doorways would probably be perfectly fine if you already stretched it the walls and tacked it, but those large openings on a double-wide...I'd kick and nail unless you have a better process :)

Yo you are misleading people so bad it hurt my head watching this video. There's carpet tracers to follow the original cut that cost 20 dollars to follow the original cut to seam perfectly. PLUS you dont have a weight following the seaming iron? That TINY seam has to look like a complete nightmare! What about the 12+ foot seams running across the hallways or bedrooms? You expect me to believe your work looked good with those methods? You have no business laying carpet my man

I dont particularly like Mike as a person. Personal business aside, I have never seen a nice comment from a carpet guy. They all bash the videos IN EVERY CARPET VIDEO. There's always several "experts" who tear the video apart. Thats why I've never posted a video of an install. These people are in the field, in real life, among me as well. They bash people in the field, on jobs, behind our backs, they have superiority complex. Every crew has different techniques. Instead of bashing them, I learn what they know. If they're truly unprofessional and underskilled, I purposely let them mess up and they make me look better by comparison. Listen, it's carpet. We got into this business because this is where the dullards go. Saying youre the best carpet guy and dogging others is like saying you're the smartest cognitively disabled person. It's not that big of a deal. It's just carpet. Im fourth generation. I learned from family first. After breaking away from family and working with others, I learned a lot more, different, better ways to do things. Im better than my dad was. I dont go dogging my dad about it.
@jonathancowdin3775

It's not just a bashing if you would fail inspection and pay for the job, this dude is the worst capet layer I see online, I hope he doesn't charge his customers as much as a master installer would, his installs are horrible, you can say that everyone has their own way to a judge but if you don't pass industry standards then you lose in court bud, there's no intelligent response you could have to that so you may as well take that advice and put it in your pocket

I've been an installer for twenty-eight years. I'm third generation. My father was a carpet man. I've worked with Mike personally and he is a terrible installer and also a snitch to the police. He got in a lot of trouble with the law twenty years ago and snitched on his own friends to keep out of prison. He put other people in prison. He wore a wire and snitched on weed dealers. My friend went to jail. I didn't know until years later when I was working with him. My friend yelled at me for working with Mike. I had no idea. I remembered my friend went to jail, but I didn't know the snitch who sent him there. Turns out, it was Mike Adler. He's best friends with a guy who I can't stand, a guy who cost me my livelihood. I worked as an installer at a carpet outlet on and off for years, Carpet Mill Outlet in Willoughby, Ohio. Some customers even asked for me by name. I moved my residency closer to the shop to make my commute more convenient and work full time. The owner, Mario, was great to work for. He's very easy to get along with. Mario is a great guy. Without any warning whatsoever, Mario sold the business. A new owner, a self-proclaimed veteran, Chris Bisset, took over the business and cut corners. I was informed just minutes before I was to leave the shop to go install carpet in someone's house. I was already loaded up and ready to go to work. I just needed some supplies (tack strips and maybe seam tape) which were always provided by Mario. The supplies are there at the shop. I just have to ask for them. The new owner told me I have to buy my own supplies from now on. I thought he was joking. He said he's not buying my supplies and that no other carpet store provides supplies. That costs roughly forty dollars a day. That is a LOT of money for me. He condescended me and said he's basically changing the standard operating procedure for his benefit and to the detriment of the workforce. He said if I dont like it, I'm replaceable. I threw the paperwork at him and called him a bunch of slurs that would get me banned here if I repeat them. I QUIT right before I was supposed to do the job. I pulled the carpet off my van and threw it on the floor of the loading dock. I said to find someone else to do it. I continued to call him names as I drove away. He lost four other installers that I know of. Some quit, some were fired. The remaining installers show him respect because he was in the military. His new sign even reads "VETERAN OWNED" in bold letters. I thought Marines were supposed to be humble. A real marine doesn't go flaunting his status or rank for profit. My Grandfather was a Marine and I wasn't told until he was dead and I was in my twenties. Marines came to his funeral in uniform. I was told my grandfather fought in a war and they didnt even specify which one. I don't care what military the new owner or anyone served in. That was your choice. I dont owe you jack shxt. He doesn't deserve any respect at all. Serving in the military does not give you the right to be domineering and treat employees and contractors with disrespect. He ruined my Christmas. Ruined my daughter's Christmas. Ruined my life. I'm evicted from my apartment. My daughter could've had a good Christmas had Mario continued to operate the place. The guy is my age, maybe a year older. I'm forty. He is bald, overweight, has carpal tunnel, and a bad spine. Luckily, I don't have those problems. I'm in shape. I thought Marines were supposed to be fit. Mike Adler is best friends with the guy. Both are snobby and in real estate. They think they are the upper echelon of everything.
