@@thoroughbreddiesel even with a 1/4" u-joint I had to grind down an 8mm socket to as short as possible and loosen that bracket so it could flex a little. I’ve a 2011 f250 6.7 PS that is S&S bypassed. I religiously use Motorcraft cetane additive with each fill up. With 214,000 miles on my truck should I just go ahead and change out my CP4 as preventative maintenance or would I expect to get a lot more miles out of it. Please advise.
@thoroughbreddiesel Жыл бұрын
This kit, by design, is for you to operate as normal, until failure. I personally don’t feel that changing a CP4 as a preventative measure accomplishes anything, however, and this is a big however, a pump with high mileage on it is probably less (to what degree I don’t know) efficient than when it was new. So a change of CP4 gets you a “fresher” fuel system. But the additives you use are designed to prevent wear so long story short, it is totally a judgement call on your part.
@Doc.Holiday Жыл бұрын
@@thoroughbreddiesel ,…I spend a lot of time in the back country, miles from a tow service and more miles than that from a mechanic. That is why I am considering a rebuild or new CP4. So far, I’ve not found a mechanic who has any experience with doing a rebuild. Thank you for your reply.

@thoroughbreddiesel2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t had experience with that setup. You may have to extend the catch can line out.
@garybergfield82832 жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same myself. I am thinking to extend the hoses to the catch can and move it elsewhere so I can put their piece where they want it. Seems about the best solution. But... did you do something else that might be helpful for when I install mine?? Thanks

From my understanding on these bypass units they don't really stop the shavings from getting to the fuel delivery system. I was going to get this but everyone I've spoken with says they don't stop the shavings.
@thoroughbreddiesel2 жыл бұрын
They are wrong. It collect the metal with the return filter and keeps the debris from being introduced into your fuel supply in the tank. We have a couple of really good videos explaining this as well.
@143cowgirl2 жыл бұрын
Can you show me where the cp4 bypass has prevented the total foul up of the 6.7?
@thoroughbreddiesel2 жыл бұрын
The CP4 bypass does not save the CP4, it saves the injectors and downstream components from contamination due to a CP4 failure. S&S has a full test that was done with a CP4 grinding itself away on a test bench and debris not making it to injectors and injectors still performing flawlessly.
@143cowgirl2 жыл бұрын
I meant can you show the results of that test? Not just saying so.

I just ordered this kit from ya'll and was going through the videos on the email you followed up on the order with. 1st thing, great video. I appreciate how thoroughly it was done. Question for you guys thinking about back-flow. On the "T" line in the kit, I see that the direction of flow to the belly of the pump from the factory filter T's straight down which is great in the event of failure when considering possible back-flow from the belly up through that line to the portion that feeds the FCA. My question is, considering possible back-flow, do you think there is any prudence in adding a one way check valve into that line feeding belly of the pump? I can see from the design that gravity is already working in your favor along with the flow of the fuel to help keep any debris downstream of the pump as much as possible. I also see the hose is short so something compact would probably need to be found if adding one. That said I don't see a physical prevention of back-flow as much as a "it shouldn't because of design" but theoretically it could happen. Have you considered this? If so what did you decide for any subsequent installs, and can you explain the reasoning for your decision? Thank you very much.
@thoroughbreddiesel2 жыл бұрын
The idea in theory sounds like a good one but my first though would be adding a check valve, would that add restriction on the system that is unnecessary and could change performance, fuel temps, etc. I think that the added length of line will keep you safe from debris, but also if you have that failure and by the time you have that much accumulation good chance the truck will no longer be running.

BTW, I didn't like the whole heating the line to expand the plastic to remove. My way seemed to be much less stressful than the heating pulling heating pulling methodology! LOL and thanks again for the video.

This kit keeps debris from making it downstream in the event of a CP4 failure and it alters the path of the fuel supply to the pumping units in the pump. See the video for our explanation of this. The kit does not prevent the pump from failing, it prevents damage to the rest of your high side injection system.

Hey, great video! Thanks for taking the time! I ordered my DPK from Thoroughbred Diesel yesterday and it shipped today! I will be installing it in about another 2000 miles when I do my first fuel filter change! I am sure I will have lots of questions, but one that I have now is about the torque on the intake. Just to make sure I heard that right... 89 in/lbs on the upper and then are you saying to get the intake to 98 degrees, and then re-torque them to 18 ft/bs? Also, for the 2 lower intake bolts, they are only torqued to 31 in/lbs? Also, I don't think I heard you mention the torque specs on the EGR bolts. Now I guess I need to find a torque wrench for in/lbs... Thanks for any help!
