Awesome vid! I just installed Cushcore on both tires with the help of this video. First tire was cake. 29-2.6 maxxis assegai. Second tire was the biggest pain in my ***. 29-2.4 maxxis dhr DD. Cranking on the tire levers as hard as I did made me concerned I would bend my new rim D: After shoving the tire as deep into the center dip as I could and using a plastic tire lever in the center of the bead that was still outside the rim, I managed to get it set with only some scraped up decals. This is probably the worst case scenario for putting in Cushcore, and I wouldn't recommend... But if you're like me and don't want to replace a $100 tire, it can work. Also, I had to use AirShot's 1.5L tire inflator bc I didn't have a compressor. Happy shredding!

So what about DH or DD tires? Cause everyone must be using thin walled tires to be able to stretch it like that. DH casings are way tougher and it’s not seating. Just keeps popping off the rim while I go around.
@SingleTrackSurgeon4 жыл бұрын
I use both DH and DD tires during race season and I never have an issue. The trick is to really get that one side DEEEEEEP in the well of the rim. Take your time and really get that bead underneath the cush core before even starting to seat the other side.
@Cyndicatedj4 жыл бұрын
@@SingleTrackSurgeon Thanks for the response! I tried getting the one side deep in the well but it just doesn't seem to want to set all the way around. @hugosxm3 жыл бұрын
This is exactly what I do, I was doing that before this video and I can tell that this man is totally right! The key point is really to slide the tire under the insert in the center channel of the rim... Regarding the issue with new tire, the problem is that the tire is not holding on the rim so it is difficult because you have one hand to hold the tire and the other to make your way Arround the wheel... New tires always want to pop off... So what you can do is place the tire and attach it with a zip tie! This way you have both hands to go around the rest of the wheel :)
@SingleTrackSurgeon3 жыл бұрын
I've never had to do the zip tie trick since once you get the bead underneath the cush core it olds it in place really well. But not all tire/rim combos behave the same for sure.

How long does cushcore last before it needs replacement?
@SingleTrackSurgeon4 жыл бұрын
I've had mine in a full season without needing to replace them. Cushcore recommends that when they don't form a tight fit over the rim they need to be replaced. Since once they reach that point, they don't assist as much with cornering stability. One thing I didn't add in the review or the installation video is how much they prevent tire wear and tear. Obviously you won't be cutting slits in your tires as often, but the actual tire wear is drastically delayed. I'm getting nearly twice as much mileage out of a set of tires. And with four tire changes on this set of inserts I've probably saved around $300 in tires alone.

@SingleTrackSurgeon4 жыл бұрын
Inflating to 40-60 PSI can usually do the trick (assuming you do this at the time of installation) Sometimes the edge of the bead can be sticky, and I've seen people put a small bit of soapy water on the edge of the rim when they first inflate the tire. But I'm sorry to say, that sometimes you just get a tire that isn't perfect.
