this is a great video to show others that floating hardwood flooring can be done. Most people think by gluing is the best method. It always depend on the flooring. It has to be flat and leveled. If not then plywood nailed to concrete is best or self leveling concrete can do the job. I would do the floating method. I have bamboo 9/16 x 3.25

can this "floating" installation method be done with any basic tongue and groove flooring (excluding clicking or locking types)? are there any disadvantages to laying the floor this way? thanks in advance.
@S.Hitchcock4 жыл бұрын
Good video. I have fitted normal laminate before but not engineered oak. Is this glued option easier or would you suggest the click option? Cheers pal
@erichsh584 жыл бұрын
3:47 how many thousands of boards did you practice on before you were able to cleanly apply glue to the entire board in three seconds? Nice even amount, no slop, no missed spots in three seconds flat. Right.

What will happen if you don't put glue in the tongue and groove of a engineered hardwood floating floor?
@cfosnacker6 жыл бұрын
Just a tip. With your miter saw, pull down then pull toward you. Not pulling out then pushing in. It insures a cleaner cut edge and easier flow. Great floring technique s tho i learned a lot!

At 5:06 those seams seem pretty close. I would stagger more, either lengthwise or leave at least two runs between boards where ends are close (say, within 6 inches).

I have noticed that some people recommend you install the first row with the groove against the wall as you have done here, while others tell us to install the first row tongue-first. Does it matter really?
@tired37262 жыл бұрын
Honestly if you ask 15 different carpenters how to build a house you will get 15 different answers. And they will all be right. It doesn't matter how you go about most things as long as the ending is the same result. So no doesn't matter.

I don't get why some say glue and some say don't I'm talking about in the tongue and groove area not on the bottom
@geegee5437 Жыл бұрын
Had the tongue and groove installed twice! the first time the installer didn't glue, according to the people who sold me the oak floors this caused planks to curve, the installer took my money and disappeared. The second time they glued it to avoid planks bouncing due to the curve. Still a bit bouncy so I give up but it improved by 50 percent maybe

Would I need to remove my skirting board before I lay my floor?

Ideally for best result yes, but you could use a 20mm x 20mm bead after, but take me seriously the end result wont look as good

I initially tried to install my engineered oak floor without gluing, but the boards started to gradually separate, since having an expansion gap means there is no compression force from the edges of the room to keep them together. I ended up gluing them.

Not as much as the technique of gluing the who floor or having the board separate

@lysergicpillamyd4836 жыл бұрын
David Klein explains it toward the end of the video, use a pull bar and a hammer to tap it onto place. Don't use too much force or you'll leave too much of a gap between the wall and floor boards.

@kearress73507 жыл бұрын
Because it's a floating floor.
@WWZenaDo7 жыл бұрын
Hm. The floor I just ripped up was stapled into position. I'll have to pre-drill & nail each replacement board in (I don't know how to operate a flooring stapler), but I would think that a nailed-down floor would be much more stable & less likely to squeak, shift, etc.
@str4tegix7 жыл бұрын
WWZenaDo sometimes the nails make the squik noise in the floor when its mooving. on a good subfloor, floating floor is stable enough without glue or nails :)

Why the annoying music ???? no one comes here to listen to music !!! Also, the guy laying the floor did it backwards, he "planked" himself to a corner. You should start at a place where you don't have to walk over the planks to set the others. That means you have to wait for the glue to set before you walk on any planks you just laid. to install the final planks.A very bad tutorial indeed.

The quality of the music matters not. The obsessive insistance that it must be included that is unbearable. Most such videos defeat the purpose by believing people wish to be at a concernt when aiming at learning about flooring. Madness. Music suits ONLY to take attention away.
