How to install F1 Rain light || MK7 Golf GTI || DIY Tutorial || Wiring + Flashing brake

DIY on how to install an F1 rain light / brake light to your car! These are universal so the idea of fitment should be the same for various cars. You can set it up 2 ways, so that it only comes on when you brake or have it so it stays on with your rear light and flashes when you brake.

Good video. This would have been useful to me 6 mo ths ago when I did mine lol. Had to figure out how and where to run the wire on the USDM car. For those trying this on American golf, if you change the tail lights to euro and code them, wiring it up to plugs won't work. Will only work to the 3rd brake light only.

Ideally if you can get the euro switch that has the rear fog light switch you can write it up to have it on just for those occasions where you need it

Nice one, car looks great with that. If wired to the rear fog wiring can it be set to come on the same brightness as brake lights but stay on whenever the fog light switch is on? Cheers 👍

Great quick vid bro. I want my f1 rain light to come on with my sidelights but my one only comes with a black and red wire and I can only get it to come on whilst braking. Any tips? Looks great on the car btw

Appreciate it bro thank you! Ummm if thats the case it sounds like your positive wire might be tapped into the brake light wire on your car light? Have you used a multimeter to find the correct wire for your sidelight? it should be one that gives you a steady reading when the sidelights on and goes to 0V when its turned off.

On my car I have wired the yellow one to the red side and the black one to the brown, I haven’t wired the red one as I want the light flashing, however it only works when the light are tuned off if I have my sidelights on the f1 light doesn’t work, can any one help?

I bought 1 on ebay and I connected it same way as you as I have a golf mk7 r and it didn't work properly it just keept flashing even without the pedal being pressed I tried messing around but no luck I think I just have a chappy 1 and was wondering which 1 you used. This is exactly what ive been looking for. Assuming that the f1 light is 12 volt? I guess i could just check the amps with a mulitmeter. Thinking of doing this but with a red 12v l.e.d. strip

Hey do u have the link for the diffuser for a mk7 R? every diffuser i find has 3 slots so doesnt have space for the middle part of the light

Yh I looked for ages to find one too but there’s isn’t any for the mk7. I went with the TRC diffuser (Triple R Composites) which has a gap in the middle for the f1 light and looks pretty clean.

Hi mate had mine on for 2months (6 weeks sunshine no rain) and there water in the f1 light already. Totally pissed. Did u drill holes in the bottom so water can leak out?

Hey man - I hear you - same thing happened to me and blew out some leds. I ended up buying a replacement one, and purchased some waterproof sealant. I rubbed it all around the edges sealing it, and it's been perfect ever since, survived jet washes, rain, snow etc and still working to this day.

Hi! If you dont want the flash, do not connect the yellow wire and just leave it loose :) The yellow is the wire that introduces flash

You can make your own bracket. Mine is mounted identical to his and I just took some aluminum bent it and secured with screws and nut to diffuser
