@cloudchief arcade, This has always been a long and convoluted process, that being said you missed one extremely important step. From windows 7 onward it is a must to enable a legacy feature within windows called Direct Play or the game will not run. It's easy to forget this step if just reinstalling the game, but if you have a fresh install of windows or never had FFXI installed Direct Play isn't installed/enabled by default and will need to be enabled. In Windows 10 (version 2004) go-to apps and features > Optional Features > More Windows Features > Legacy Components > and tick the DirectPlay box. For Windows 7 & 8 the process is similar but you will need to look it up for the exact pathing to enable it, even in Windows 10 sometimes the pathing has varied slightly from build to build.

I’m giving this a go but god damn has it never been harder to play a game. Even now with FF14 it’s an active struggle to try and give square your money to play their game, this is just next level convoluted. Thanks for the guide thought, I was having so much trouble trying to figure this out

This guide is awesome, but it says my Square Enix password is wrong even though i log into Square Enix website with that exact password. Has anyone had that issue?

From what I can tell on their site Square Enix membership login info is separate from the "Square Enix Account" used for XI and XIV. Confusing since the terminology is so similar but I would suggest double checking that you have the right account type.

Sounds like to need direct x. Make sure you check the box to install direct x as seen at kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHfOgGirmMl7gqc .

Unable to start ffxi because it is not installed error:020 idk what the issues is

There are several different issues that could give that error. 1. It is possible that you have antivirus software that is blocking the exe file for FFXI. 2. Double check that you downloaded the version of the game for your region. 3. Make sure that you check the boxes to install both playonline and final fantasy xi. I would suggest that you uninstall, redownload the files and before you start the install disable your antivirus and then reinstall.

First video I came across as someone with a casual interest in FF mmos wondering what ff11 is like. Overall very helpful, I'd highly recommend adding the video on free trial account creation in the description though just so new players can navigate a little easier and do the whole thing in one. For those wondering, this is the video I personally used: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h53HqKdte5iJd6M The only difference is that when creating a free trial account you dont have the option to 'add new service options' for character slots and instead you input the code from the SE store directly into the New Service section and log in right away. When you log in for the first time make sure you have the account manager open, screenshot or save the information for the account. This is because you need the SE account name and password and, the Online Play Account name and password.
