I half expected Erick to hammer on a "jaw" from the fret jaw tool (or similar) when he hammered the fretboard extension frets in order to spread the hammer blows out more evenly. Of course, he didn't need that help, but watching the video and seeing the frets flex up & down as they were hammered in made me think of what might could be done to get a more "even" force on those particular frets. Thank you for this detailed video!

@@stewmac oh really? very interesting! i've been using your jaws 2 for many years to do just that, in fact i find it's easier than the 1 so i use it for the whole neck. at the moment i have to rig up a big wooden bar under the heel of a les paul or whatever, using various stacks of shims and pads and whatever to fully support things then attack it with the jaws 2 (bottom caul removed) going over the whole thing. a purpose-built adjustable support caul would be _great_

Nice as always Erick! One thing I do different - I don't glue the frets until they are all pressed in. That way I can check each one for level with a rocker to make sure they are all pressed in. Ocassionally you'll have an end that doesn't seat, or a middle that pops up, so it's nice to find that before you glue so you can re-press.
@Erick.Coleman Жыл бұрын
Hey Geoff! Thanks for the detailed comment, I can tell you didn't watch the whole video, haha! I am 100% with you on this. I pressed the frets in and ran some #10 under them. I saw you file the fret ends so they are flush with the binding, but in the next shot the fret ends are beveled and are no longer flush with the binding, but instead a bit shy. Did I miss something? Or is it just that the binding is also beveled and creating an optical illusion of being wider than fret ends?
