Sauce...after a 6 month trial on a Redshift stem I must say I agree with your conclusion. I also would recommend it as a front suspension solution over my FS 1.0 and 2.0 systems. Reasons: weight,ease of service,longevity,swappability. Once my FS's fail I'll opt into an FSD + Redshift for sure.

I quite enjoy my FS 2.0 on my Roubaix, but since I have kept the dial in the "locked" position lately, I plan on replacing it with this part at some point. I just don't know the interval for servicing the FS 2.0 since my bike has less than 5,000 miles on it. But based on the weight savings alone and how affordable this part is, looks like I'm making the jump soon. Great explanation on making the swap!

Worried by one aspect of this, which is that you loosened the collar pinch bolt without releasing the pre-load tension. This means the tension is being held on that tiny screw in the front and its easily damage hole into the carbon steerer tube which is only designed to locate the collar at the correct height. I also don't believe the pre-loads wouldn't be affected by loosening the collar pinch bolt. Better to back out the pre-loads and set them back up again after?

Hey Steve! You're not wrong. Probably best to do so. Typically, I'll always readjust the HS preload after fiddling with the future shock headset.

Just installed mine, bike is noticeably lighter! Quick question, was I supposed to leave the shim that slides on to the Futureshock on? I did as the stem seemed too loose otherwise.

How about designing a hollow FSD with a flip-up top cap? More on-bike storage! You can probably fit one or two beef jerkies in there

Can the rubber boot be completely eliminated and the stem mounted lower down? It would leave 2cm of exposed FSD cartridge that will need cutting, but is it possible?

It can, but not with this design. The FSD was designed as a direct replacement. A different design is required if you want to slam the stem. I believe an eBay seller is making one like that

Omg yes. I slammable version that works with fs 3.0. Perhaps even a model that’s slammed , 3.0 capable, uses standard stem ID and has internal routine. I’d pay $1000 just for this stem version.

That might be possible, but not with the current FSD design. It’d have to be modified with some slots for cable access

I don’t think it’d be possible on an actual FS unit, since it’s a closed cartridge. No pass thru available

FS sure seems like a very complicated shock solution in an area of a single point of critial failure that would normally be much less complex, ie bolt the stem to the steer tube. YIKES, I sure hope Specialized and The Bike Sauce know what it is doing. HAS ANYONE BEEN HIRT WITH THE FS system failing?
