YOU LITERALLY SAVED MY RG35XX!!!!! I was trying to install garlicos on the original card which was 64gb, but it kept saying it was too full to work, so I tried expanding the partition and accidentally FORMATTED THE CARD!!! STUPIDLY i didnt save any of the roms, but after watching your video, at least now the damn thing boots! I can replace roms easily, so you saved me having to buy another device just to have a working one!

I ignored everyone's advice and didn't copy the card that I got from Anbernic, and low and behold my card crashed and couldn't be read after about a month of gaming. After the 1.0.2 update broke my single card install (no clue how, menu button stopped consistently working and couldn't bring up the retroarch menu or even the recent game selector, went straight to menu) I went ahead and set up a 16gb os only drive and a 2nd 128gb card for my roms and saves. So if I ever do get a mini in stock I can swap cards and reflash the os card as needed.

1) if your current FW/OS serves your use case perfectly, dont upgrade. 2) dont update on daily/weekly basis. Check the changelog every 6-9 months if theres an update for your specific need/issue.

General curiosity from side (WARNING!! Could be a very dumb question...) In these devices that basically run the operaring aystem from the sd card - at least as far as I understood - is there any modifications to the device itself by installing a different os? Is there any sw bits on the device itself (idk, a bootloader for instance, or a BIOS) that is modified by the operation? Or is it everything happening on the sd card? In other words, if as an example I flash garlic os on an SD card, another custom fw on another sd card, and I even keep the stock card as delivered from anbernic, can I just swap cards to swap the operating system the device will boot into?

Those are 2 parts of the same archive. Download both then use 7zip to extract 001, it'll automatically join them both and extract the image.

Make sure you get the MicroSdCardImage .001 and .002 files (this has changed since I made the video). When you extract select the .001 file, it will combine them both into the image file you need. You shouldn't need a password.

That's strange. Make sure you eject the SD card properly. If that's not working there might be something wrong with your SD card, try another if you have one handy.

When I am trying to flash the os to the card belena finishes with "flash failed" and my sd card is destroyed. When trying to reformat it has mutliple partitions for some reason. Tried it both from fat32 and exFAT formats. Result is the same. Any idea to help?

Use "Disk Management" in windows to delete all the partitions on the card, then create a new "simple volume" (you can leave it as the default selected format), and then after that's done you should have the drive mounted and it'll be empty. Then you can try flashing the image again.

Hmmm. The only thing I can think of is that maybe the card needs to be formatted BEFORE the flash? Try using minitool to delete all the partitions and then make a new Fat32 (if it's under 32gb) or ExFAT (if it's over 32gb) partition. Then you can try flashing the image. If that doesn't work I have no idea what to suggest!

That usually is due to a memory card that is dying. Try the flash on a different card if you can.

Sorta. Either you have to copy & paste to your PC, then swap cards and copy them from your PC to the new card, or you have to have both cards connected at the same time.

Sounds like a faulty SD card. Try another card before you continue troubleshooting. If another card does it then you'll know something else is up and you can research the solution.

If you've flashed the image over the SD card, the data that was on there is gone. You'll need to add your own roms to the new image. If you don't have roms you'll need to download them. I suggest looking for "1g1r" sets on Google.

How hard is it to make exact copies of the SD cards on better quality ones? Sorry I'm new to all this and not very computer literate😁

You can use a program called Win32DiskImager to save an exact image of the SD card, and then you can write that image to another sd card in the future and have an exact copy.

You mean, physically removing it from the device? It's a standard microSD card mechanism, push it in with your fingernail and then it should click out.

I flashed garlic into the SD card and it created the various partitions, but when I put it on disk genius they couldn't be seen! I tried to format the SD card but it tells me it only has 10 MB of space. if I flash garlic again same problem. Balena detects that there are 128 GB free but does not create the various partitions for me. How can I format the SD card to bring it back to how it was originally and do it all over again?

Sounds like a bad flash, or a corrupt SD card. Are you using the default SD card that came with the device? If so you should get yourself a cheap replacement.

Thanks for advice man! so after a day or so of re flashing the os countless times I figured out it was a battery issue. Initially I had used a fast charger. And that seemed to work but after 2 and half days and attempting to install a new os. The whole system was out of whack.turns out you cannot use any form of fast charging after letting the battery die completely on its own theb experimenting with the chargers I owned including the one that came with the device nothing was working but a Nintendo switch charger. The device booted garlic os no problem

Cool tutorial. I have a problem though.. it seems like the FAT32 got like some sort of deepfreeze. I everytime I add files it got deleted the moment I removed my USB on the computer. I can't delete or add files on my microSD. I don't think the microSD was set to 'Lock' since I use card reader direct for 'microSD' and not using adapter for this. any fix for this?

That means your games aren't being detected. Something up with your rom directory naming, or the rom files.

hey man is it really just preference or is required to use 2 sd card when setting up garlic os?

If you have a windows PC to setup the cards, it's a preference thing. If you're on a mac then the single-card setup is WAY more difficult, it's advisable to only use 2 cards there.

I followed your instructions, my device boots up with Garlic OS intro after that everything went dark and freezes.

It sounds like an SD card issue. Did you use the stock SD card? Try a different SD card, that would be the only thing I can think of.

@@TechDweeb I've already installed garlic os 1.3.1 and do the partition. When I browse the folder all I see is the modules folder, and zip can't see the CFW, BIOS and ROM folders.

the stock OS worked but when I try using Garlic OS my device no longer powers on. I've tried multiple micro sd cards so I doubt they are the issue

Are you sure it's plugged into the right SD card port on the device? This device won't power on if it doesn't detect a working image on the SD card through the primary (top) slot. Also make sure the device is fully charged (use multiple different cords and charging blocks, I hear this thing can be picky), and make sure you hold the power button for a good 10-15 seconds because sometimes it takes longer for whatever reason. Other than that, it might be a faulty device. Since you've tried multiple SD cards it's probably not a problem with the image you flashed, as long as you're following the steps properly. If you can't get it working then try contacting the company, I hear they've been good about customer service.
