How to install HamClock on Windows 10/11 - Step-by-step guide (no sound/music)

After posting the previous videos of showing Ham clock running on Windows PC in July, I tried this method many times. It’s so easy there will be no need to have a live streaming.
Read about system requirements before attempting it. 64 bit Windows OS only.
The environment in this video: Windows 10 Pro 64 bit (Non ARM)
Make sure to download the presentation (LibreOffice or PowerPoint) and follow the procedure exactly. Where it says reboot you need to reboot : mega.nz/file/59YQxRzY#_eSE8f9...
I only recommend this to those with Linux familiarity. You can't expect a video to show every possible ways when things don't go well. Please take some time to learn basic Linux commands. You are running a completely different OS environment on you PC alongside of Windows.
No voice or music.

Update on 12/17/2023: I tried this method on another PC and it worked. Be patient when running wsl --install. It could take a long time. Do not be tempted to close the windows. Also, if HamClock does not open, try running make again.

Curious about the video tearing around 10:20 on the video - in the video it looks like just changing the font size resolved it? Running WSL Ubuntu under Windows 11, and that didn't work. Nothing I tried seems to fix that video tearing. But if I run a MobaXterm WSL-Ubuntu session on the same PC, and run the same program, it works fine. Any suggestions?

Just bought an Evolve III laptop with Windows 10 Pro Education. When I type the wsl --install command, I get the following message: 'wsl' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. What do I do?

Run Windows Update. It's in the video. Please follow the procedure and then if it does not work, ask. No shortcut.

I have Ham Clock running but if I shut the computer down I have to go back to Command Prompt to restart everything, is there a way to write a task schedule to handle that on log in to windows?

I'm getting Command 'make' not found but can be installed withl apt install make

run "sudo apt install make" to install make. I reviewed my write-up and it's there. That means you didn't follow the instruction exactly. If you miss any command, it won't work.

Thanks for this. I walked through your steps, and it seems like everything worked correctly...except the HamClock window won't pop up. I even tried to access it via the IP address in a web browser as other sites suggest, but I just can't get it to work. Any troubleshooting ideas you have would be very appreciated.

I am Windows 10, 64 bit. I installed WSL, enabled virtual machine, and updated the Linux kernal, all per MS instructions.

Make sure you apply all Windows updates. Open PowerShell in Admin mode and run wsl --update (wsl 2 dashes update), then wsl --shutdown

@@crazycats100 Windows is up to date. I did run wsl --update, but not wsl --shutdown. I'll try that. edit: that didn't help

There maybe problem with your $DISPLAY environment variable. You can use Mobaxterm to ssh to your WSL-ubuntu and run from there. WSL-ubuntu will be shown under user sessions. See my other video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHe0hWuqnqeJgdE

If you want to use a PC just for HamClock, I recommend running pure Linux using PC or Raspberry pi, not Windows.
