Hey! Interesting to finally see how the American chandelier ceiling canopies and fittings work! I am in England and I am used to our European canopies that slide up and down rather than being separate from the rest You also do your wiring differently as well! Here we put the ground on to the house ground , not the cross bar which not all our chandeliers have. Any of ours go in a hook. No junction box . I much preferred your old chandelier! That one was really beautiful. Nice quality glass prisms and age to it. Guess I’m a sucker fir the antique chandeliers!

One small video/instructional slip up: the canopy loop ring goes onto the chain BEFORE the canopy. In the video, it's there...then it's not. It must go on the chain before the canopy, as it has to tighten the canopy onto the canopy loop.

Just out of curiosity, when it comes to the ground wire, do I have to hook it onto the green screw or can I just hook it back to the ground wire with the electrical cap just like it was before with my old chandelier? Thank you

Thank you these installation and removal videos are great. Everything would have gone just as you said and this wouldve been done in the same time as watching the two vids....maybe a half hour with assembly and cleanup. But NOOOOO. OF COURSE the twits who owned the house before us jammed the wrong size screws into the diagonal bracket that attaches to the electrical box in the ceiling, ruining the holes in the little tabs on the box. Thanks to yet another of their "handy solutions," this is yet another of their messes we're stuck trying to fix. (They painted walls without masking tape and dropcloths,so the original oak wood trim is smeared and spattered with paint, they installed a sink base too large for the kitchen so the basement door couldn't open more than 45°.....just the beginning of their insane jerry rig jobs)

That doesn’t sound cool...🤔 You’re not alone, we find ourselves coming across something that needs to be fixed & leads us to say... “What in the world was the previous owner thinking”...🤣 Keep us posted on your project, after it’s complete, hopefully many stress free days ahead for you! 😎👍🔧🔩

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Thanks for the encouragement! My dear husband helped me. He got a smaller diameter screw, put a nut way up by head to make it bigger, then gave it to me to slide down through the damaged tab on the electrical box. Then I put the cross bracket on with the proper screw on the undamaged tab. Finally I put the other end of the cross bracket over the smaller diameter screw and put another nut on. Hope this is good! Now, if only the chain had those chain connecting links that twist open and closed like yours! We have to pull the links apart with two screwdriver shanks and push them together again. In order to do that, I have to wrap the teeth of the adjustable wrench with rubber bands otherwise they scratch the finish on the chain. Yuck! Nothing simple. Every chain hamging chandelier should come with those connecting links or people should be warned they need them.

Question????The Crystal Plate that I have wont come off the stem. Is there some type of locking mechanism? This Chandelier is from the 60"s

So, what is your green ground screw grounded to? Why didn't you attach the fixture ground to the house ground as it was when you took the old one down?
@DIYwithMichaelBorders6 жыл бұрын
Sean Ahern Thanks for watching Sean! Great question, the old Chandelier Ground Wire wasn’t properly connected to the Green Ground Screw. During this video as we worked through the install process, we wanted to make sure the Ground Wire was properly connected & secured to the Green Ground Screw. We hope the video helped! 😎👍🔧🔩
@seanahern77496 жыл бұрын
Ok, but it was connected to a ground. As far as can be told from the video your ground screw is not connected to anything, making it ungrounded. If you copper ground was connected there too it would be ok but it isn't. So, what is your ground screw grounded to?
@DIYwithMichaelBorders6 жыл бұрын
Sean Ahern Thanks for the reply Sean, the design behind the the Green screw connected to the frame/base mount of the Chandelier allows a secure ground connection when looping the Ground wire around screw & tightening it. It also allows a clear indication of the location of the Ground Wire to alleviate any guessing games. 😃 A great & recommended way to safely & properly connect & secure your Ground! 😎👍🔧🔩
@seanahern77496 жыл бұрын
Ok, thanks I see what you are saying. But I hope your junction box is grounded then if you are grounding to that through the mount! Assuming your box is metal and not plastic, or you have metal beams instead of wood.otherwise you may not be as grounded as you think; just tracing backwards. Thanks for the tip and help!!

Lezah Bell Thanks for watching. Your new Chandelier should have instructions for transitioning your old to the new one. It may have you wire-tie certain wires together for proper code. Does it matter which wire goes to the live wire and which one to the neutral wire? Meaning the two wires attached to the chandelier itself are the same color. Which one goes where? Or it doesnt matter
@DIYwithMichaelBorders5 жыл бұрын
Paister03 Thanks for watching, we appreciate you reaching out to us. One white wire will attach to the power lead & remaining white wire will attach to other wire...aka...neutral wire in a way. We are happy you reached out to us, we always stress the importance of properly connecting all parts & wires when working on electrical. Keep us posted on your project! I figured that much thank you for your reply but my real problem is that there is a 3 light bulb fixture on it now and there are way more wiring then I see on KZbin DIY projects on this. Not sure which wire to keep and which one to cut. Any suggestions?
@DIYwithMichaelBorders5 жыл бұрын
Paister03 Thanks for the reply. Since your switching from a 3-way style light fixture to a less stage fixture, you may need to cap off remaining wires as they won’t be needed. Most importantly, you must make sure the Black hot wire, white leads, & ground wires are properly connected & secured to their respective connection points/wires. 😎👍
