Nice video. To speed up the first bit you could perhaps just used wget on the Proxmox terminal to pull the HA image straight onto it rather than have to download and copy across?

I do not know if it have been mentioned, but you need to switch the bios to OVMF(UEFI) otherwise it will not boot.

Nice video, thank you for the hint about the legacy boot options. However, I am now having the issue that I am seeing since nearly 2 hours the "Preparing Home Assistant" page, with the hint that this could take up to 20 minutes. The CPU load as well as allocated memory are really low. Just wondering how I can look "inside" to see what is going wrong.

Hi Marcus, Glad you liked the video. To be honest, never faced such an issue, but I assume it's something HA couldn't set up - typically networking issues, like the unavailability of a DHCP server or IPv6 can cause this. To look under the hood I think the HA CLI (which should available via shell after the HA VM's boot) could help you.

I'm new to home assistant. I followed your instructions and installed it in a proxmox VM. I had trouble setting up a static IP. Missing guest agent information. After that I installed esphome through the browser interface. My first device is an esp32 emulation of an alarm panel keypad. I need to access the esphome directory to copy the .h, .CPP, and .yaml. I tried to do this through the console. But the home assistant cli is not Linux? The available HA OS commands don't seem to help. Have I run into a limitation with the VM approach? I hope not. This is my first attempt to do something useful with HA.

Thanks for the video. Unfortunately, there is some problem and I try everything that I find as a solution but still homeassistant is stuck on "Preparing Home Assistant". log shows - '"updater.fetch_data` blocked from execution, no supervisor internet connection"

You can navigate to the Shell of your Proxmox node on the UI and there you can remove it with the good old rm linux command.

nice video, I'm trying to connect a usb disk (it's called /dev/sdb, I can see it in hardware in home assistant), but I keep getting errors (failed: Permission denied), when I try to mount it. Made folder and full access. Hope you will make a video how to connect a usb disk. how to mount hard drive p.s. succeeded the first time, had to do it again after I saw your great video. Have now spent a week, have run into a wall

Why not simply wget the HA image on the PVE host and unxz it (already installed on Debian). Much more faster.

My home assistant VM hangs on a regular basis. The console is full of gibberish. My hardware is an N5100. I assigned 2 cores and 4 GB of RAM. Starting to wonder why I went this route.

Hi Dale, Sorry for not responding earlier - let's see what we can do. What do you mean by gibberish? Is it just actual random characters or some cryptic error message? Can you post a screenshot of it somewhere and link it here?

@@TheTinkerDad hi, thanks for your reply and for making the video. Gibberish was a bad word choice. I think it was debug messages. I recall the word 'starve'. Unfortunately I didn't take a screen shot. I disabled all add-ons and no problems since. I'll re-enabled them and try to reproduce the problem.
