This is a superb series of video. I am also trying to recode my E46 to a manual from an automatic after having performed the swap and this is the first series of videos which provides the sequence in clearly understandable terms. I have been looking for two and a half years since I completed the swap. Thanks... But I have a problem. I got the software working properly and INPA links to the car and reads, etc. But NCS Expert, while it loads expert mode properly, returns a COAPI 2020, no response from ECU, error code whenever I hit any of the modules under ZCS/FA f. ECU after entering E46, i.e. AKMB or ALSZ. I was having a problem initially with INPA not addressing the car, until I changed out the USB driver to 2.08.24 on the VM XP 32 bit device manager from an earlier driver which came with the D-Can + K OBD connector. So, now INPA works, but not NCS Expert. I am set up in the XP Home Edition on the Virtual Machine in Windows 10 64 bit original host environment. I have a feeling it is still some connectivity issue with the USB driver in the Virtual Machine for XP. The USB driver, incidentally, is configured to COM1 with a latency of 1. Has anyone else encountered this issue? It seems odd that INPA works but not NCS.

I was able, incidentally, to resolve my problem with NCS Expert not running when INPA did run. So for the benefit of others who might encounter a similar issue, I did so simply by soldering together pins 7 and 8 on the OBD connector (top left two pins on the wide edge as you look at the socket). That was the simple fix which got NCS Expert running perfectly on an '02 E46. I have the white circuit board on my OBD connector and understand that the green circuit board is preferred, with two K-Line leads, thus presumably not requiring the soldering. But the soldering together of the two pins works. For those unfamiliar with soldering, use a short, half-inch length of wire to solder the pins together after removing the four screws on the socket and gently prying apart the two plastic shell halves of the socket. Gently unplug the small socket connector inside from the top of the circuit board to avoid touching that inadvertently with the iron and then plug it back in when done before putting the shell halves back together. "Tin" each exposed end of the half-inch length of small-gauge wire, that is run a little solder over the exposed ends before soldering to the pins, to make them easier to solder to the pins. Then all you need to do is momentarily touch the tinned ends to each pin while soldering for just a couple of seconds or so. That way you won't run the risk of de-soldering the pins or burning any components with excessive heat. I had already changed out the USB driver on Windows XP in the Virtual Machine, which was loaded by default during installation, to the most recent version at the "Virtual COM Port Drivers" website, FTDI drivers. Look for the most recent XP driver or the most recent Windows driver and either will work. That had been my first connectivity issue, which prevented even INPA from working. Install manually in the Device Manager of the Virtual Machine XP version, not in the host Device Manager. (I am running Windows 10 in my host machine.) Thanks again for these excellent videos. They saved my day after two and a half years of looking for precise instructions on recoding the computer after the transmission swap to eliminate the error code looking for an automatic computer module no longer present, hence preventing smog inspection, even though obviously having nothing to do with emissions ...

I just wrestled my way through numerous software configurations and after seeing your comment here, finally remembered from a long time ago when I was setting up bmwlogger with a k-line adapter on an E36, that people were mentioning bridging those pins. I didn't have to do that then, but this time I was starting to suspect the hardware and I'll be damned if shorting 7 to 8 didn't fix my "VIN is faulty" error that I have been trying to get past for like three days. Thank God I saw your comment! On a side note, I purchased my k+d can adapter a year or more ago and just had it on hand, so I'm not sure what is going on with ones produced now, but my PCB has a green solder mask, not a white one, but it required the jumper just the same. I don't usually read comments but thank you so much for taking the time to note this.

Btw This is NOT a criticism but the very first step in the pdf instructions seemed to be missed out - Updating the System Variables Path. A note for anyone else doing this and having errors after running the Install EDIABAS etc (Instprog.exe at 8:52). At the end when you hit the Exit button (9:25 in the vid) it can take a while for it to close. Just wait for it to close itself. It is definitely working in the background and the first couple of times I force-closed the window which I think was the cause of subsequent errors. The more of the modules you 'Check' to install, the longer it seems to take.

Just a VERY important tip, make SURE you get the cable with the GREEN circuit board, I went through trial and error buy buying one with a WHITE circuit board that does NOT work. I eventually got the one with the GREEN PCB and it works 100%

This is the best instructional with NCS expert INPA installation. Honestly information is all over the place and sometimes I've spent time I cant get back reading forums only to conclude that it doesnt show how to do it or its wrong and not working. Thank you sir. I have one question though on a subject Im having even harder time finding. I plug it in and INPA recognizes I have the cable plugged in. When I go into NCS Expert it recognizes it as well but when I try to load the modules and read VO it brings up "Following feature is invalid for FA: #1207" and I get it to load the codes but I cant change them. Ive read in various forums that I have to update the Daten files and I finally found a download page with V60.1 I think...Well now I have no clue how to update them. Ive tried manually copying them into what I thought were their respective folders but it actually made the program work less and gave me more errors. I had to reinstall your method again as I lost where I went wrong. Anyway you can help guide me what forum (theres so many) you may have learned to update, etc? I have a mac running Windows XP 32bit virtual machine. Trying to code on a 2008 335XI (has JB4, this couldnt be an issue could it?) . I should try it on my e46, maybe its my car, or maybe my cable...

Great tutorial. But, gosh darn it, I copied the wrong NCSEXPER file in the very last step. I copied NCSPRINT by mistake. Now it's all in German. Lol. I got too excited for the end, because all my previous attempts to install with the CD that came with my cable kept throwing errors to paths not found. This tutorial is great, well articulated, and everything works like how it works in the video... Just be patient

Hi 50skid.I have a bmw x5 e53 2001.. 2 weeks ago on my dash apear transmission failsafe when drving.. And need press pedal gas to deep to keep driving because few like stop its to hard to make runing.. But if turn off and turn on again locks like no normal.. Runs good and transmission works good again.. This happen sometimes when stop on ligth for a second.. Bring to mecanic but dont' find anything.. Can you tell me what can do.. Thanks..

hi, need some help. i have it installed, v5.0.0 on my e46 INPA can read the digital and analogue values, it can read in detail the DSC fault codes, but wont read the engine codes in detail. when i select s54 engine it says 'versions do not match. Hello 50's KID... perhaps you've some instructions pointed at disabling/removing The "ews" features from the DME...My same vehicle is the 2004 E60 545i. produced in may 2004. Inpa error codes are 2737 & 27A4... Perhaps there a preferred way to contact you? (youtube doesn't allow?)

whatever is using com1, find it and change it to use another com port, then reboot and you can use com1 for the cable

Hello my name is angel I have a m73tu swapped e39touring and I have an issue that I can’t seem to find anyone to help me with. I have a laptop with bmw softwares that I bought off eBay a while back and I used to be able to switch between OBD2 and ADS to connect to my cars but something happened while a tuner was remote tuning my brothers tdi through team viewer and I think he might have moved some settings but now my computer only communicates via ADS and I need it to be able to communicate via obd so I can use sss progman to code the dsc module in my e39 any help would be greatly appreciated thank you✌🏽

I ran INPA 5.0.8 on every single Windows version after XP (Vista, 7, 8 and 10) with no problem. So before messing around with a virtual machine for no reason (unless you dont want that stuff on your physical computer) you should get this newer version. 6.4.3 is only essential if you want to diagnose older BMW without OBD. But then you also need another diagnostic cable.

im very new and 50's kid has helped me do tremendous things with my bmw that i never would have dreamed of doing, the vids always give me confidence and always work 100 percent....but the one thing i would like to know is WHAT CABLE DO I BUY? i bought an older laptop with windows xp followed these instructions and it worked perfectly, but i need a cable with a 16 pin to serial port (since this laptop has one) that will also allow me to use my 16 to 20 pin adapter for my 323i. im at a loss which cable i am supposed to buy. 50;s kid please help!

Hi mate. As good as this programme is.. Could you tell me your views on the 'Carly for BMW' app? I've recently bought it, plus some of the addons, but still using my own obd2 wifi adapter instead of their £50 version, and for what it does I think it's great although a lot of functions aren't that clear. I'd like to hear what your thoughts are on this app if you've used it, or if not, could you do a short video on it as you explain things a lot more clearly than your average instructions. I think there are better tools for the money, in this case you are paying a useful app to use with your phone, but I think that for the price you could use (much) better tools to use with your laptop.

Nice car Daz! Exactly the same as mine over here in NZ. The Carly is very good for simple reading and diagnostics but beyond the basic updates like battery registration and changing and fault code resets it doesn't have a patch on the depth of what you can do with this software and a $15 cable. And every time you want to do anything functional in the App it seems you make a 5, 10, 15 euro payment. I understand that their pro version of the App and coding may also now be restricted to using their own Wifi Adapter, the price of which seems to keep going up.

Look into ISTA rather than INPA. It's newer and covers more.

Thank you for such a great tutorial, however, didn't work with my '11 328i e90. Didn't work with Windows 7 and I tried it on an XP laptop. After successfully installing it on XP, INPA worked flawlessly, however, NCSexpert didn't. The error code I was getting is "Following feature is invalid for FA: #0910". Any help would be appreciated!
