Great to see this. I am building a pretty significant "screen door" for my house and want to use magnets to hold it closed, rather than a traditional catch. Glad to see how simple this can be. wish me luck!!

Excellent video which I followed to the letter and your idea worked a treat! I was making window shutters with flush hinges. One area to watch, is to buy quality hinges without play (I used Hafele). The first set of standard unbranded hinges I bought were ‘sloppy’ and had I used them, the magnets may have pulled the door out of line. As it was, it all worked perfectly. Thanks again!

@@BradshawJoinery I'd tried using thinner magnets on my first proper cabinet build with mixed success. They kinda held the doors closed but not to any great satisfaction. Offsetting them makes a lot of sense once you've seen it. The bumper trimming for the perfect fit is also another obvious-when-you-see-it tip so thanks for that one too :D

@@BradshawJoinery Yes, we probably should pay but I'm on KZbin because I can't begin to pay for those $1,000 + week-long workshops where presenters typically hand out such information. The question in my mind is whether KZbin videos are sufficiently monetized to be worthwhile for content providers who haven't made videography their primary work. I bring that up because a wood industry journalist friend has suggested I try making KZbin videos, an endeavor about which I have zero skills or equipment. I'm highly skeptical.

If I understand correctly, the magnets in the doors are drilled into the end grain, right? Not in your practice setup, but in the real thing.
@BradshawJoinery
@BradshawJoinery 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Sarah. Yes, generally they are in the end grain but they work just as well further along if you prefer to have them in the long grain. They don't have to be directly next to the buffer either I just think it makes sence. You may need a jig to drill some end grains as the bit can wander.

They don't come with bumpers on, you have to remove the black plastic part then stick a 8mm bumper onto the face where the black bit was if that makes sense
