How to Install J Racks for Kayaks - By Weekend Warrior Outdoors

Designed to fit a single kayak in the j bar kayak rack, mounted onto a vehicle’s existing roof racks. The design is so that it helps secure your kayak firmly in place whilst being transported. These create space to allow you to carry either a second kayak or another product next to this system.
With this design it has the very important adjustable arm which allows you to adjust the position of the upright bar and fits the kayak more securely into position as you can adapt to suit the shape of your kayak. The rack folds between 1-180 degrees which is a key element as it can fold flat when not in use.

This vid was great however I do have something to add. I would attach the straps, directly to the roof racks, on "both" sides of the kayak. This means the j-racks are used in a stabilising role, rather than a load bearing role. By connecting the strap to the j-rack "itself" you are placing unnecessary strain/force on the, somewhat weak, mounting assembly, which attaches the j-rack to the roof rack. Let the roof racks take most of the strain as they are the real strength anyway. Thanks punters. I'm an Aussie also.

what about using ratchet straps to secure the tips. Is this not necessary if looping the J carrier straps underneath the cross bar?

What are you using for a lock. 1 to lock the J-rack from being stolen and 2 to lock the Kayak from being stolen. I would love not to have to lock them up but unfortunately, not everyone is honest and we have to protect our property..... even when pulling into a rest stop for a bathroom break.
