If only all tutorials were this well made, life would be easier... I'm actually buying one set just because I now know exactly how easy it will be to install them. Thanks a lot!

How would they perform on a pair wide (26mm) risers? Do you ever add padding? Does the leather constantly roll around under duress or hold its place on the bar? Bravo. Thx
@walnutstudiolo9 жыл бұрын
Martian Luther Our sew-on bar wraps are designed to fit a 1" diameter bar, which is approximately the same as 26mm, so they will fit fine. When you install them wet, there is a little bit of stretch and give that can cover small gaps. As they dry, they shrink and stiffen into place, and you install it with strong double-sided tape, so there's no slipping. However, because they are cut to shrink onto a 1" bar, they cannot be stretched far enough to accommodate padding. For padding with leather bar wraps, we recommend our braided bar wraps: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3qYZH18mNV4p5Y Check out out bar wraps infographic for more details: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0156/2360/products/infographic_ET_V2_grande.jpg

Hi! I have a set of leather for my bars but having difficulty. 1) at what point or points are you tighting the stitching? 2) how do you prevent wrinkles in the leather? Specifically, wrinkles after stitching past the brake levers and down the drops of the bars. Thanks!
@walnutstudiolo4 жыл бұрын
Loosely stitch the entire length. Then using the palms of your hands smooth out the biggest wrinkles. The leather should still be damp and pliable, if not spray it with more water. Then start to tighten the thread. Don't use the thread to pull the leather tight, but instead "smoothing out the wrinkles" with your hands should stretch the wet leather around the bars. Smoothing out any remaining wrinkles as you tighten the stitching and finish the installation. As the bar wraps dry they will tighten, and most importantly the leather will stiffen into place. Great question, thanks for asking!

do you knot the thread before you begin?
@walnutstudiolo2 күн бұрын
I don't knot the thread before beginning. At minute 1:28: I leave it loose so I can tighten the stitching down after it's stitched on. I tie knots on both sides at the end. Likewise, I don't recommend knotting around the needle eye: we use (provide) waxed sail-maker's tread with is very heavy duty and does not slip through the needle like sewing machine thread does. Great question, thanks for asking!

You can use our Sew-on Bar Wraps on any bike vintage or modern with a standard (1" diameter / 25.4mm) set of handlebars. Thanks for asking!

Hey!, have you ever considered a design for b.m.x bar pads?, i have made a few from old veg tan weight lifting belts, and although my attempts are rather basic, as an ameteur, i was very pleased withthe result, id love to see some with embossed designs, many thanks for your tutorials from england!!

Hey Eddie, thanks for writing! I have not worked on a design for BMX bar pads but it's an interesting idea. My workshop is tooled up just to work with leather and wood, and often the pads incorporate different types of material like foam. Happy crafting!

Hello. At the end of the video we are still left with two long pieces of string hanging on the inside of the handlebars (where we started the wrapping process). What is to be done with these? Could you please explain? Thank you.
@walnutstudiolo9 жыл бұрын
+Dariusz Krzywonos Sharp eyes! The string at the beginning of the bar needs to be tucked under the stitching and trimmed off, just like the example at the end of the bar in the video.
