What a cracking video on how to wire spots up. I've never done it before, but after finding this video, i feel totally confident now on taking on the job! I was thinking of pushing the original light plate into the ceiling and running off the wire that holds the bulb. I can now mark the wire and wire up everything else up to the wago connectors and still not know what they are all for lol class

Thanks guys. The job you described in the video was almost the same as the job I wanted to do. I followed your tips to the letter. Job done and absolutely no hassle. I do have just one question though. I wanted to use a dimmer ( downlights dimmer compatible). When I exchanged the original switch with a dimmer, it didn't switch the lights on. Is there a particular type of dimmer switch I need to buy? Top video thanks.

Quick question hopefully, Iv just had a dormer added, I want to add 3 lights on a single run, and 6 lights on another run so all going to a 2 gang switch, I think I understand how these all wire up, but my question is, from the last spot light what do I connect up to? Do I connect straight to consumer? Or do I connect to the light switch, or do I connect to a junction box? Thanks in advance

Really helpful. My only question is, what do you do if you don’t have access to upstairs to feed the cable?
@homeimprovements Жыл бұрын
Will need to open up the ceiling 😊
@pennyhardaway7491 Жыл бұрын
Assuming youve drilled in your holes, take a long flexible piece of material such as the uPVC draught proofing strips often used around uPVC windows and tape the cable to one end then push it through one hole in the direction of the next. If it doesnt go assume a joist, however you can then angle the strip upward slightly, passing it over the joist while another person keeps an eye out for it in the next hole. Abit fiddly but the hole should be large enough to grab the strip and cable with a hammer or crowbar/long hooked tool then pull through.

Great informative video. This method has all the lights turn on from the same switch i assume? What if i want the spot lights to turn on from a different switch?

@Khanage00027 күн бұрын
@homeimprovements thank you. Do you have a video on this or somewhere I can look for this info? Cheers for the reply! Edit. Just had a Google on 2 way switching and I've only found info on adding two switches for 1 light. I would want to wire the downlights to a new separate switch to the main light switch. Hope that makes sense haha

@Jayjay-jg7ui Жыл бұрын
Hi mate how would it work for a loop in at the switch ? Would there be a junction box under the floorboards that would need connecting to the first spotlight ?
@homeimprovements Жыл бұрын
Two plate ? Where the neutrals are at the switch ? If so the cable at original light can be moved directly to first spotlight
@Jayjay-jg7ui Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. Yes 2 wires in the COM, 1 in the L1. This particular room has two light switches. One on each corner of the room. That’s why it’s set up this way. Ceiling rose has just the switch live and a neutral. - so my question is still ok to do it via the wago connector method?
@homeimprovements Жыл бұрын
Perfect so yes just take that cable from original light to first spot light unless it’s too short then just extend it using the wagos 😊
@Jayjay-jg7ui Жыл бұрын
Sorry my bad. There’s one wire in the COM and 2 at the bottom. 1 way and way. Would it still work the same?

Also, if you have tri-colour lights, make sure they're all set to the same setting (warm, cool, or day) before pushing them into your ceiling, unless you want to drive your OCD mate mad!
