How to install LED headlights into Hyundai Projector Housings with H11B bulbs

Hyundai uses H11B bulbs on some models, making no direct replacement for LED bulbs, this shows you how to install an H11 LED while keeping everything stock on the vehicle side in the case you want to convert back to H11Bs, this is on 2009 Santa Fe, but I assume it would work on any model with stock projector headlamps... please don’t install LEDs or HIDs into non projector housing and be that dick who is blinding everyone.

Just added H11 LED headlights to my 2012 Santa Fe that came originally with H11B bulbs. I used Fahren brand LED's with a driver attached. There are now adapter cables available that go from the H11 connector to the H11B. They run around $10 per pair and are about 6" long. There's a lot of stuff to insert into the housing, but it can be done. I bought the adapter cables with loose red and black leads and inserted through the TOP of the H11B connector and it holds very well. Rather than trying to insert them through the side as shown in this video. There are also now H11B LED lights available but most all of them are from no name companies. I tried a set and the lumen output was terrible, so I returned them to Amazon. I would stick with name brand companies and Fahren has good reviews, they just don't make H11B LED's, maybe because it's just not a popular size like H11 or H7. Hope this helps someone. I appreciate videos like this even if they're 4-5 years old. Also, you should re-aim your headlights after the conversion. There are many, many tutorials on how to do it yourself. It's not hard and you're being a courteous driver to oncoming traffic, besides getting maximum benefit from your new LED's.

If you do not want to hack the LED connector just in case you want to return it. You can get an H11B adapter and tape the blades as shown. Great video.

I used Headlight Experts to get an H11B LED . Great design just insert , rotate done , but I did have to file the prongs down a bit . They’re in a reflector light , 2008 Elantra . Dust covers fit too . Your idea is pretty good 👍👍 .

Wouldnt it be easier to have the H11 adapter hard wired in so that you can use the actual harness? In the future youd just have to buy h11 bulbs instead of h11B.

Jesse Richens hey, I don’t know how it is in other countries but in Canada the highbeam is also used as the daytime running light so it is always on and with a regular bulb it is dimmed when the high beam isn’t switched on... if you put a led in there it can’t be dimmed and it’s like always having the high beams on all the time so it didn’t work in my situation... i don’t think US car have daytime running lights so if that light isn’t always on with key on then you should be able to... hope that made sense.

Did you notice the LED bulb was a bit loose when it was put into the housing? The original H11b bulb has spring loaded base to hold it tight where as the LED is just flat plastic. I’m worried it might vibrate loose.

The led is supposed to have a silicone compression gasket that would stop this.. it’s blue on my led in the video

I've read that led headlight replacements have a different (less than optimal) beam pattern than original incandescents. Anything to say about that with this installation? Same car, just burned an original one out.

joe woodchuck I think most of what read would be referring to putting a LED into a non projector halogen housing... which ends up blinding people.. these projector housings are well suited for LEDs, the beam pattern is good with a sharp cut off line so your not blinding other drivers

Karim Abdullah the pattern is good very sharp cutoff in the factory projector housing so your not blinding everyone.. no vids sorry

You don't need to remove the headlight housing to change the bulbs to LEDs. You can remove the Halogen bulbs and install the LED bulbs by just removing the covers, undoing the retainer clips to remove the stock bulbs. The place the LED bulbs intot he housing, secure the retainer clips and put the covers back on. Simple. You may need to adjust the lights down some after installation.

Vi Cez in Ontario the daytime running light is the high beam on low output... are you sure it’s not the same on your Santa Fe?

You might be using the wrong base type on your 2009 Santa Fe. The early editions of the 2009 Model use H7 on your Low Beams and H7 on your high beams. The later editions used H11 on the low beam in 2009. You may have one of the early editions on your hand and that's why the prongs didn't fit

Cozy Socks the low beam is H11B and the high beam is an H7 the H11B is easily identifiable as it has the terminal prongs built into the base. And that’s why I had to modify because I was making an H11 fit into an H11B... there are a few direct replacement H11B LEDs on the market now but they are still more expensive then using an H11

Ezeus R yes, in Canada the high beams are also used as the daytime running light.. so it drops the voltage to make the lights dim when headlights are off, it with LEDs they still work full brightness with low voltage, so you are driving around with the high beam on all the time.

I own a Kia Optima 2013 and those Kia had those H11b awful headlight you can`t see anything at night , There is a connector you can buy without cutting wires or doing extra work check it out in lesfit website ... h11b h11 LED headlight plug
