Hello. Just wanted to thank you for the very helpful video! I just installed Mint on my Dell Gen 2 (2005) laptop and it runs like a new beast! It was choking up with Windows 7 and would take forever just to get to desktop, much less open a browser ( FF, Exploder or Chrome). Once Mint was installed, it's quite the speed demon. Now I can enjoy my aging laptop again! Thanks again!!

I am trying to switch my HP laptop from Win7 to Linux... I tried Ubuntu but the WiFi stopped working! And I have no way for fixing that since I cannot download drivers since my laptop doesn't have a LAN port (unless you know another way of fixing that) Now I plan on deleting Ubuntu and installing Linux Mint. Can it fix this problem, what do you think?

@@awesomebearaudiobooks Ubuntu 20.04 seems to be bugged in terms of not detecting LAN drivers and/or LAN connectors on your motherboard. I'd install Linux mint because GNOME is a horrible desktop environment, Cinnamon is overall much better and Mint as a distro is still debian based, so you'll still have the apt package manager.

@@awesomebearaudiobooks -- For anyone reading this, I would go with Linux Mint, and btw, it seems to 'know' what graphics card etc that's in your computer so you shouldn't need drivers, ie: I am running 2 monitors (a HP desktop computer) and my graphics card is a very basic GeForce GT 220 and it seemed to know what it was so I didn't need to download the driver. HOWEVER! I had a HP all-in-one printer and I NEVER was able to get that damned thing working, so MAYBE a solution would be that BEFORE you install Linux Mint, plug in ALL the printers etc. that you think you are going to need/use need, turn them on, and THEN install Linux. That *might* solve the issue but I'm just guessing. I don't have tons of computer experience compared to many hotshots, but like I said, I was never able to get the printer working and even though I may not be the most savvy, I have always been able to get things like that working with all the other OS's I've ever used, but not this time. So I would suggest you try what I say before installing it if you're not a computer whiz. Cheers and good luck!

Thank you very much! I switched from Windows 10, and also bought ssd and installed OS. Computer just flies. Have become so fast. DaVinci resolve starts in less than 9 seconds. Intelij idea starts in 7 seconds. Laptop starts in 10-12 seconds. I'm so amazed by this speed. Mind you I was used to slow windows. It used to take around 60-90 seconds or more to be ready for use.

Excellent video - Straightforward, clear, concise, and well-paced. Thank you kindly. My 2012 laptop was literally gathering dust. Thanks to you, this evening it was a breeze to wipe clean the disk and start fresh with Linux Mint. As I type these words it is 01/2022, and most of us have little reason to preserve Windows 7 or MS Office 2010. In my case, Linux took a long time to download and update files from the Internet, but that is minor. Thank you again for this very helpful video.

Thank you so much for this quick & easy tutorial! Using Linux Mint Xfce I was able to recover all my data off of my crashed SSD drive! My SSD would cause my computer to crash whenever I tried to turn it on using Windows 10 before I could even reach the boot menu (& it wouldn't be detectable if I plugged the SSD in after my computer was loaded). It occurred to me that maybe the crash wouldn't happen if I tried to load it on my laptop running only Linux instead of Windows. (I think I was lucky that I didn't have an operating system on my SSD). It turned out that's all I needed to do to recover all my files! On top of that I discovered how smooth & well Linux Mint Xfce runs on my old laptop!

This may be obvious, but not stated. If one "installs" Linux Mint from a bootable USB drive, when one shuts down Linux, "ejects" and physically removes the USB thumb drive...will your original OS (i.e., Windows-10) boot up as usual? [I'm deathly afraid of wiping WIndows-10 from my machine.] Thank you.

Oof if you use a laptop for games you probably should have kept windows with linux. If you've figured out your issue, you can still set up a vm for gaming. I cant help ya with the other question but yeah

Thanks! How big a USB drive is needed? Is an 8GB RAM fine for Cinnamon if you are also keeping windows? I'd a computer before that I think got to the boot menu by holding Ctrl+Alt+Delete so that may be worth trying for some!

Did you have to create a partition to allocate space to Linux Mint? Is it a good practice? I'm thinking of doing so, but my Windows 7 laptop has 220gb left, and allows me to only create a partition of size 110gb max, but I'm afraid that won't be enough space for the stuff I do on Windows as well as the stuff I'll do in the future on Linux Mint
