I had such a wonderful time using macs in the 90's. SO much Nostalgia wrapped up in those old machines. I could spend a whole lot of money buying machines that may or may not work. Even if they do work, they are way, way out of warranty and probably pretty tired. The best short term, cost effective and reliable method is going to be emulation. Tutorials like this make it so I can relive some of the memories of some of the best years of my life. Thanks man. Some of the people that got me into computing have passed away. In a strange way this brings me closer to those days and those good people.

This is the most helpful tutorial. I was doing good until I ran into an issue where I can't extract the resedit file because my windows computer thinks its a snesx file and when I try to throw it into stuffit program itself it doesnt work. I'm honestly exhausted right now and will have to try later. Low key want to cry because I can never get Mac emulation working but one day I will conquer this beast

no. Mini vMac automatically does that it is an actual hard drive

You can use ResEdit as an icon editor. Create or copy your desired icon from somewhere else, and then select the icon in ResEdit, copy it, go to the HD in finder, Get Info, click on the icon, and paste.

If you want color, you might want to use Basilisk II instead. It's a 68K emulator that emulates faster Macintoshes than Mini vMac and supports color. You could also use SheepShaver if you want to emulate a PowerPC Mac, but that might be a bit too new for you depending on your purposes. If you check my KZbin channel, you can find a tutorial for setting up SheepShaver if you want to go that route.

@@AlexElectronics Thanks Alex - this is an incredibly useful tutorial. I have tried BasiliskII and it works fine, but there is one issue - the game I am trying (Chuck Yeager's Air Combat) runs way too fast; and there is no way to slow it down. So either have a way to slow down Basilisk or run Mini vMac in color would be super useful.

Update: I was actually able to run 256 colors by using the MacII version of vMac Mini and a compatible, 256k ROM.

I have a problem I downloaded as i downloaded Basilisk II for Windows - 68K emulator w/ floppy support from machintosh repository to play a game only to find that the game runs abnormally fast ! How do I run the game on normal speed ?

You could try running it in Mini vMac instead of Basilisk II since Mini vMac emulates an older (and slower) computer.

@@omerashraf9357 There is a special version of Mini vMac that emulates a Macintosh II, which has color. Try using that and see if it works. You will need to use a Macintosh II ROM instead of the Macintosh Plus ROM that I showed in the video. You should be able to find the correct ROM in the Old World Mac ROMs folder that I provided the link for.
