How to Install MacOS Catalina 10.15 on an Unsupported Mac, iMac, Mac Pro or Mac Mini in 2022

Remember boot key is the 'Alt/Option' Key on the LEFT SIDE of the keyboard!
In this video I will show you you how to install macOS 10.15 Catalina on an unsupported Mac.
To be clear this guide shows you how to install Mac OS Catalina, it is up to you to backup your data first and use Catalina at your own risk, I am not responsible for any loss of data etc...For me as you can see I installed Catalina and it worked for me, however due to unforeseen circumstances I can't help with all install steps if it doesn't work out for you. I also can't support or guide you on the use of additional Apps you may install like for example Office (word, powerpoint, excel), Final Cut Pro, Photoshop etc... they may work - they may not. However do help others in the comments if you get Apps to work what other are struggling with.
Using dosdude1 Patcher; I have successfully installed MacOS Catalina 10.15 onto a 2008 MacBook Pro and you can to on your Intel Mac!
You will need a USB stick and a copy of MacOS Catalina 2020 and the patcher.
The USB stick I have used and works with MacOS Catalina is this one;

The same Macbook, Macbook Air, Macbook Pro, iMac, Mac Mini & Mac Pro that were compatible with MacOS Mojave work with Catalina 10.15.
One Final note at the time of making this video, MacOS Catalina is currently on 10.15.3 so a newer version might be available but I would still recommend dosdude1 Catalina Patcher with with newer versions.

I guess at the end of the day, you have to trust the people writing the code for the patcher to NOT be malicious in their coding. Thanks for this video! Updated my Macbook Pro late 2011 (16GB RAM, 500GB SSD) from High Sierra to Catalina 10.15.7. Updated without problems as shown in video. Restore of time machine backup took a few tries/hours of work. The migration assistant was stuck after logout/login. Managed to restore everything, so I can finally enjoy my "new" Macbook Pro. I assume yours was 13inch model and not 15/17inch model as dosdude makes it clear this isn't possible without serious graphics acceleration issues making the laptop unusable.

One question though, once Catalina is installed, there is a “Patch Updater” icon sitting at the bottom in the System Preferences menu. Why is this here? Do I need to use it every time there is a Catalina update? Can I remove it?

Hi@@AlinR624, Same Problem occurred with my MacBook Pro Mid-2009 exactly same spec as Matt's; I have gone up to the 16:45 seconds up until then I followed everything exactly as Matt mentioned and did perfectly fine. But unfortunately I have got the sign you mentioned that is called either "NO ENTRY SIGN" or "PROHIBITORY SIGN" and when I use some other commands in order to boot it from the SSD Hard drive marked as "MACKINTOSH" on this occasion a "FLASHING FOLDER" comes up with a "QUESTION MARK" on it! Then again tried to do click on the "Recovery" option no luck at all! I booked an appointment with the Apple Shop in Trafford Centre Manchester Genius Bar and taken my MacBook Pro to them; One of the technician asked as to what happened to be honest I could not tell the truth as I might be refused to help; I just told him that It was one of the Restart of the MacBook pro and I had seen that It was not booting up as it was before? He tried several command options but realised that none of the commands was ending up in a satisfactory result? He even tried to boot my Mac Book Pro from an external Drive with El-Capitan installed on it that didn't work either! Connecting to the Apple server and was trying to download the Software from Apple Network (spine) was the first attempt anyway. Eventually I was told that Either my MacBook had a faulty hard Disk (SSD) or the Flex/ribbon cable that connects the Hard Disk to the mother board was faulty? I replaced Both of them Still my MacBook pro is in the Bricked (damaged heavily) condition and I do not know where and who to turn up to? Apple customer service adviser told me that the MacBook that I own has ended by Apple they neither manufacture nor supply any parts for it? I was advised to go one of the Independent Apple trained Technicians in Manchester area and then again he mentioned that If there is a damage with the mother board it is not worth having it repaired as it might be costing one and a half of the value of the MacBook that have got? and not worth having it repaired! I can not blame anyone this includes Matt who has shown how to do this upgrade in hiss video and he doesn't accept any liability and obviously I have got no right to blame him> It is my fault I did try to upgrade it and it didn't work but just bricked my MacBook Pro? Has anyone else like @Alin Andreca and me experienced same issue or similar issue and found a solution for this kind of error that we experienced? Any help would be much appreciated. I have a 27" 2009 iMac that I use mostly for plugging my M1 Mac Mini into to use as a nice 27" monitor. It works wonderfully well when running High Sierra. BUT one day I used the magic to install Catalina on the iMac, and it stopped working as an external monitor! Fortunately, I had a Time Machine backup of the High Sierra system, and I'm happy again.

I have a MacBook Pro 13 inch screen from 2012 I think. Bought it online for $400 refurbished. It had high Sierra but some of the apps I needed for editing weren’t supported. So now everything works the way it’s supposed to. I knew there had to be a way to update it with out paying so much money and now just need to make it lol bit faster. Lol but thanks again bro.

Rafy Angel C.C. If it’s a 13 inch model from 2012 (click Apple logo and then “about this mac” it will tell you the year) it shouldn’t need this patch as 2012 MacBook Pro’s work natively on Catalina. But if it’s a 2011 MacBook pro or below it will need this patcher.

Chinedu Ezetah Looks like an incompatibility is present - similar to what Hackintoshes go through. So someone has to fix this by further hacking the OS.

Maybe it's the privacy settings or the time. Set tha time do automatically mode.

As I loaded Catalina to my computer hard drive, it wiped everything out. I’m taking my computer and external backup hard drive in to get everything transferred over.

Sonia Tello Good question - I thought it would update to Catalina and keep all the old settings, but.....apparently not. This looks like a very clean fresh installation - and looks like all your data will be wiped! 😱 Will it still be possible to recover all your purchased apps and data from your time machine backups into Catalina? 😳

I watched your video have followed your given steps up to the 16:45 all went well then moving bar under the apple logo stopped towards the end and my MacBook Mid-2009 bricked! Obviously this not your fault and I am not blaming you in any way shape or form! This totally my fault! Whatever known command I have tried; I either ended up in seen a "NO ENTRY SIGN" / "PROHIBITORY SIGN" or a "FLASHING FOLDER WITH A QUESTION MARK" on it! Took the MacBook to Apple Genius Bar in Trafford Park in Manchester I was told that either my SSD or Flex ribbon cable that connects the SSD to the mother board was faulty? But I have changed both of them; still same problem exists? I would like ask you kindly if there is any way you know how to install El-Capitan again on my newly bought SSD by inserting it into a caddy and using my Windows O/S since my MacBook is not accessible at all? Thanks very much for your help and response even though you don't have to do so? Regards

@@kellyulrich6393 Look... pul out any usb that is plugd in to the mac leav it just with the keyboard and the mouse nothing else then do it. In my case I hade iLock usb interface and many stuff so when I plugd out everything it works. WELL - U need to let only the USB with the Catalyna :D :D :D
