Hey i am wondering how you get the percentage of how dark the window is when you double tint? I don’t know if it’s true or not but I’ve read multiplying for example in my case .50X.50 which equals 25%, does that sound accurate? Thanks

Thanks for making this, first video I have found like it. I would like to know how to calculate double tint though? I have 70% factory glass and I am trying to figure what 35% or 15% over the 70% would come out to. Thanks!

Multiply the final layer of tint percentage by the previous. Factory tint is 70% of 100%, or (.70 x 100 = .70)... you move decimal right two spots for the percentage, so in other words .70 = 70%. So then if you tint over the 70%, then you begin to assume 70% is the new (100%) and of that 70%(acting as 100%), you are only letting through either 35%, 20%, 5%... or whatever you put on it. So in other words 35% over 70% is (.35 x .70 = .245) so 24.5% or basically 25%...... 20% over 70% would be (.20 x .70 = .14), so basically 14%...... 15% over 70% is ( .15 x .70 = .105) or basically 10.5%.....and 5% over factory 70% would be (.05 x .70 = .035), or basically 3.5%. When you start putting tint over factory rear glass which is usually 35% or 20% then it gets real interesting. For instance a simple 35% over factory 20% is (.35 x .20 = .07) so you’re already at only 7%. Now put limo tint 5% over factory 20 % ( .05 x .20 = .01) you get basically 1%.... which is what the guy did on his rear windows in this video.

There really is no advantage other than achieving a darker look. In the video he states the customer put 5% over the factory 20% in the back which made it a 1% and he wanted the front to be the same percentage. 5% is usually the darkest film one would carry so to make it look darker than 5% he put a piece of 20% on the 5% to drop it down to match the back. It's more for darkening the shade vs. doubling durability or performance of the film. In other words you don't go to the tint shop and ask to get 2 layers of film just because you think it will last longer or work better.

Hi guys. Just want to ask is it okay to double the tint? Because my car came with stock security tint from factory, but very clear and doesnt filter the heat properly. So I am in the market to apply new tint. I'm still very much love the original tint due to its security features, but afraid that if I apply another layer of tint (probably around 3mil-5mil), it will affect my power window. Do you have any advice?

i had 15% over 5% for 2 years and had it removed a couple months back to replace with just 20%. Double layering most definitely affected the efficiency of the power windows, but honestly you trade maybe a millisecond in window speed for max privacy haha. pick your poison ig.
