Stone looks nice up against the walls. I liked the sealed look, too. A couple of recommendations. When installing the stone, use a 1/2" notched trowel. Apply the mortar on the Durock, and back-butter the stone as well. That way you are more likely to get closer to 100% bonding. You'll have voids the way you did it. Also, the caulking you used @ 12:57 on the top is ALEX. That's a low performing sealant that really should only be used indoors. I know it says exterior use, but it really isn't. In that heat, it's going to dry out and crack very quickly. You need to use an elastomeric sealant like Dynaflex at the very least. A better sealant for that application is Big Stretch. I use that a lot on exterior applications and it is superior to any other latex caulk I have found. Another good sealant for exterior is Vulkem 116. It's a polyurethane, so it's harder to work with (not water clean up, use acetone and mask off the edges). It has a sand texture, so it works very well next to concrete and concrete products. It is paintable, as well, but wait a few days as it takes longer to dry. That caulking tool is no good either. Use a damp sponge or rag to work the latex sealant. Use your damp finger, too. That tool obviously made a mess and a less than satisfactory end result. The ALEX caulking will probably start to fail in a matter of weeks. I would let it dry, then scrape it out and use Big Stretch or Vulkem 116. Vulkem is more permanent in that environment. Big Stretch will last a long time, but will have to be maintained in the future.
@OdellCompleteConcrete3 ай бұрын
The caulking is holding fine and is rated for outdoor use. Regardless of the type of caulking, you will always have to inspect and re-caulk when needed. A good coat of paint will also prolong the need to re- caulk.
@JonnyCat633 ай бұрын
@@OdellCompleteConcrete It's still going to dry out and crack in no time at all. How long has it been installed? It's the absolute cheapest caulking on the market. Like I said, I know it says on the tube it's for outdoor, but it's really not, especially for that application. Can it be used on the exterior? Yes. Should it? No. Spend the extra few bucks on a good elastomeric caulking, and it will last much longer.

i like the sealed look because the color of the sealed stamped concrete and block walls are warm toned so the sealer on the stone veneer brings the warm beige and light brown undertones out of the cooler greys you see in it when unsealed!
