Thanks for the pointers mason. I put in 4 different smaller additions on my house this fall & your tips helped a lot on the block lying. Now I'm getting ready for the stone veneer coming up this spring in a month or 2.

Awesome video!! Can’t wait to see how you point it up . We use a bag . I work for my Dad and he will be yelling at me if I leave long joints , he always wants me to follow the old rules of laying real stone. It’s hard to follow the old rules with fake stone .

Any content on how to transition stone (field stone rocks) to drywall? New drywall, 80-year-old field stone fireplace. Drywaller didn’t scribe 😭

So do you paint bonding adhesive on the back of all your stones or just the ones you’ve ground? Do you do the same for natural stone? I’ve been have some trouble with natural stone sticking. (I am a DIY-er and a novice) I’ve resorted to using smaller stones but I’d like to use some of the bigger ones.

What is the name of the ready-made cement you use to install these stones? Is there a stronger one if the stone is heavier? I'm going to make a fireplace and it has some big, heavy pieces and I don't know how to glue these stones together so they don't come loose. Recommend me a good cement for this, please. TY
@masonthemason64123 ай бұрын
I use quikcrete stone veneer mortar. I mix it heavy with bonding agent. The stone will stick. You have to start from the bottom and go up and you have to shim the rocks in place
@alexsandrolk73 ай бұрын
@@masonthemason6412 But the stones are at a distance from each other, perhaps half an inch. Is this cement safe? Do the pieces not come loose? Don't move? My fear is that the pieces won't stick together and won't stay in position. There are several pieces in various sizes. There are big and heavy ones. And what tool do I use to make scratches on the wall? Can I use the same cement to make the scratches? And which tool?

You really don't need the bonding agents, you should wet the stone and wall before applying to get a good bond.

Quick question brother for a inside chimney with sheet rock can I scratch coat right over the sheet rock or do I need to put up hardy board ?
@masonthemason64122 жыл бұрын
I would rip the sheet rock down. I’d be worried about it falling off with the weight of the stone
@juniorguerra6485 Жыл бұрын
Add lath over the sheet rock
@davegordon6943 Жыл бұрын
Yeah that's allot of weight to hang off of sheetrock
@juniorguerra6485 Жыл бұрын
@@davegordon6943 Maybe if you just glued onto the dry wall it'd be a problem. For it to work you would do the scratch coat onto the lath on top of drywall which would harden into the shape of the fire place and also you screw or staple into the studs that are behind the drywall holding it up. Have done thousands of fire places on custom built homes never been a problem. It would be a waste of time and money to remove sheet Rock
