Great Tutorial. I used this with my Macbook Pro2,1 and Yosemite. Installation worked fine. In fact it was an Upgrade. All Programms and Settings are available as they were before. Very Cool. Thank you for SFOTT.

After a few days of testing I have to revise my enthusiasm: Problem with the graphics-adapter, sound not working, flash not working (maybe due to graphic-probs?), each Update from the appstore requires a new installation from USB with SFOTT, Mouse freezes unecpectedly. From the technical point of view: Yes, it is possible to install Yosemite on an MacbookPro2,1. From the user point of view: annoying because some essential functions did not work properly. Sad, but I go back to Lion :-(

The installer doesn't boot up from the EFI. The Mac is boots with old OS X. (iMAC 5.2, OS X 10.7.5)

If someone had error selecting the Installer choose opcion 1) defaul folder aplications. then it will appears names of installer, copy that name and paste it as name to installer. go back to SFOTT and select again that option. you will see your installer under one option to select. Was able to convert my MacPro 1,1 from 10.7.5 up to Mavericks last week as a result of the excellent video you posted on upgrading to Maverick. So I figured I'd just do the same thing this week with Yosemite. Problem is that I go to the link and download the file BUT - when trying to open it I get a google chrome warning that an unliscensed individual created this file at 12:48 Yesterday??? I try using safari and google and cant get around it. Am I missing something? Otherwise it's all excellent!

do a right click and use installer version 5.0 or something, i had the same problem, when you right click you get open with....and on mine it suggests the older version which worked just fine. hope that helps. I am trying to do his here too on a Mac Pro 3.0ghz 1.1, lets see in the middle of it :)

Hi I’m on is x lion (the last version that I can get officially) and I’m on a MacBook Air 1.1 which is a 64 bit anyway but I’ve tried it a few times now and it doesn’t show up as a disk drive to start up from when I restart my MacBook. Have you any ideas? I saw on macrumurs that my MacBook has been used to do it before with Yosemite and El Capitan everything else goes exactly the same as yours

The installer and everything seems to be going well but the USB I created at the beginning keeps disappearing when SFOTT is about to finish creating the installer. Hello! I ran your SFOTT_install_Yosemite_beta.dmg on a Macpro 1,1 with 4 GB memory and I am able to get my machine to reboot after running your program and startup using your SFOTT startup drive, but a few moments after, I get the progress bar in the White apple and black background menu and then the computer crashes and produces what seems to be a memory dump and says Debugger called and gives me some Darwin Kernel info and then the whole process starts over again of trying to install the new O/S, but it fails over and over again. The progress bar is only 10% advanced I'd say. I have not modified any bios, not installed any Tiamo bios. I simply ran your SFOTT file after downloading the latest Yosemite (10.10) from the Apple website from my other MacPro 5,1 that runs Yosemite fine, by copying the installer onto a USB flash drive. Do I need to install some Combo Yosemite OSX installer and not the vanilla one from the AppStore? I install your program onto my Macpro Lion startup drive and then tried creating a new O/S on both a USB drive as well as a hard drive and both times the install crashes at exactly the same spot with the White Apple symbol and 10% progress bar below it, I get: panic (cpu1 caller Kernel trap at . And then a 6 rows of hexadecimal numbers. Then fault CR2 Error code: . Fault CPU 0X1. Then Debugger called: Backtrace (CPU 1) Frame : Return Address Then six rows of what appear to be hexadecimal numbers Then BSD process name corresponding to current thread: launchd Then gives me the Kernel version etc. What could be going wrong? I was able to torrent the installer, followed your procedures and instructions, but when you said it created a usb stick I went and looked at it and it didn't work. Nothing was there, so I opened the installer from the computer, and it sayed I need to put it on a writable Mac Extended drive to continue installation, so I dragged it from the desktop into the USB drive to see if that worked and it didn't... any ideas what I could've done wrong? Nice tutorial, man! I have a Late 2006 20" iMac 5,1 that's been used by my family forever, until it's HD bit the dust in Summer 2013 - or so we thought! Decided to give myself a project for my last week of summer, and so I clean restored the computer to 10.7.5 Lion which is the last supported version for this iMac, officially; also the version we thought it "crashed" on, and the computer ran fine yet again; the HD just got overloaded with files, causing the whole thing to slow-up and give up. With a clean HD though, I decided to really push things and attempt to go up to 10.10 Yosemite, and after watching this tutorial, sure enough, it seems like all things are working! As I type this I'm still going through the installation process onto the HD, but I'll let you know if I catch anything wrong as I'm expecting some bugs for a near-10-year-old iMac haha. From that point, the family got a new iMac, and I'm using a max-spec'd Mid-2014 15" Retina MacBook Pro, so I'm just playing around with this old iMac at this point lol. Great, descriptive tutorial nonetheless! :D

JerTheGeek I did some research and the late 2006 iMac isn't capable of running Yosemite at all. The GMA 950 is not compatable with it. I've seen someone put Mavericks on it though your best bet would be upgrading to Lion, its the latest supported OS X for your iMac.

Something is wrong with this, for me, any help would be very appreciated. Situation: Mac Pro 1.1 - 2 x 2,66 Dual Core Xeon Lion 10.7.4 installed and running rEfit installed (Maybe this is an issue with rEfit?) Flashed Sapphire HD4870 1gb, working flawlessly on Lion. Problem: I follow the steps as instructed in the video, my Yosemite installer is taken from App Store, SFOTT says completed and asks me to reboot to install Yosemite. (Strange fact, maybe: right after completion, a text window opens, not terminal but plain text with a lot of #, saying something about the script. It doesn't happen in the video so I just ignore it and close.) As soon as I reboot, the black and white apple screen comes up, stays there for a few seconds, then turns back to the usual light/dark grey and nothing happens. If I shut down the Mac and access the boot menu, my Mac HD shows up as Base System Something or stuff like this, I don't remember now, and when I try to boot from it the black apple comes back, then grey and then stuck forever. The only way to boot into Lion again is alt/starting the Mac again, going to recovery and choosing the Lion disc as startup disc in Disk Utility. Does anybody have a clue about that?

I held the alt key down and was shown with two hardrives, efi boot and os x base systems , so I clicked the base systems and it bought me to the apple logo with a folder with a question mark and the folder keeps blinking every few seconds . So I tried turning it on and off again but it always goes to the same screen. HELP!!!! :-(

I see on your Mac Mini, your graphics is showing 'Display 8MB. My laptop is Macbook 2,1, 2ghz, 4GB (Sam type ram as you) but my graphics is only showing 6MB. Any idea how to make that any better? Third party driver or such? It just doesn't always show everything. Also my sound doesn't work that that is no big deal breaker.

I've successfully installed Mavericks 10.9.5 on my Mac Pro 1.1, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB, 20GB RAM. However, when I want to upgrade it to Yosemite, the system stalled. I mean when I restarted Mavericks with a USB patch key (Yosemity) and pressed Option, there was a patch key and HD. It stalled after I pressed the patch key to operate installation. Just installed this on my Early 2008 Macbook (MacBook4,1); nice tutorial. It has a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB of RAM, and a 7200rpm HDD. Performance was not bearable though; graphical glitches were out of control. Kind of odd, under About This Mac it said I had "6MB Display" under Graphics, when it used to say 144MB Intel GMA X3100. In any case, my specs should have been enough, but they weren't, and I would advise against if you are in the same boat as me. I have since downgraded back to Mountain Lion and performance is flawless.

Could it be that the boot option doesn't work when you dont have at least 2 GB ram (that are "needed" for lion) ? Because I have the same problem as others that my normal HDD is loaded but I am only using 1 GB RAM.

Tried this on my mac mini running leopard. The cp command with leopard doesn't recognise the -a switch so it bugs out. Manually set the target machine to the board_id and model printed out when running on target system running on a more up-to-date machine. Created image - booted - got a black background with apple logo. Tried again with Mavericks got far enough to realise I need more RAM. Looks encouraging for Mavericks after addition of more RAM

No just ignore that completely. I was doing it for video purposes, completely ignore that. You should be doing everything in the video on your unsupported Mac - the one you want to install Yosemite onto.

Charles i got the same macbook as yours. my installation went well on the usb, no erros, but when i try to boot it up, its goes back to lion, do you know what the problem is ? when i try to instal directly form the usb on the macbook, it says contact appleCare

Hy, i've done for successfully USB Install Mavericks, i get boot menu, i start Mavericks Instalation, takes around 20 minutes,,i've try Yosemite, but strangely he give's me a " strange menu" not exactly the same i get with Mavericks install,,well,, install had finnish, i rester my Mac, and no matter what i do, he just won't boot Mavericks partition, i've even delete old OX Lion, to see if was that the cause, and after restart, he give's me a strange symbol like a folder in white screen,,,i can see my Mavericks Partition he got's everything he needs to boot/run, but he simply don't,, any solution? please,, help,,

I tried to install on a Macbook Pro 2.2 (Late 2006) with 4 Gb of RAM and a Intel core 2 Duo with 2,33 GHz following tutorial step by step and when it finished to install, it reeboots the computer and stop on appel's logo with black background and doesn't works any more. Is that procces avalaiable for my mac? There is another form to install Yosemite on macbook pro? PD: When Yosemite was installing, the remaining time apears not correctly because all the time it look for 16 minutes remaining. In addition the instalation time of OS tooks about 2 hours and 45 minutes. Sorry for my english. Thanks a lot

This did not work for me even though I have the same Mac Pro 1.1 (2006) as you. I got a failed message. Target System for Recovery Creation is: not set Target System re-Patch is: not set Tiamo's boot.efi mode: graphic Something seemed to have failed: got message saying... hdiutil: attach failed - no such file directory and a long listes of other stuff in the code results. This is disappointing. I really wanted this to work. Any advice? Bob.

Another problem really simple probably...I made usb loader no issues, MacBook 4,1 everything groovy, when I boot up to install, asks to go online, ok I am supported then it says Yosemite already installed and wants to quit. What am I doing wrong? yes Lion supported no issues with creation. Thanks Micky

Hi.. On MacPro 1.1 (2006) with proc upgrade 2xXeon 5365 QuadCore.. I installed already Yosemite 10.10, works great !! :) Then load MacPro Firmware 2006-2007 ”FW tool … after second restart, all the best,, Thank you !! ;) Best Regards from Croatia
