Dude - I am so looking forward to see if you get this all working. I recently purchased a 987 Boxster. Several features aren't working (heated seats, home link garage door opener, headlight washers) and found in the forums that I most likely need the "Handover Reset" that you mentioned. I called my local dealer and they had no idea what I was talking about. Told me to just bring it in and pay their $165/hr shop rate to get it looked at. I have purchased a Durametric cable (enthusiast version) that does not support the coding option to enable features. I called Durametric support before I bought to ask if the Pro version could enable these features but the person I talked to wasn't sure. I saw what looked like old post about using a VM copy of PIWIS but it looked like a lot of trouble and based on the age of the posts, I doubted it was even relevant in 2022. But it looks like you are on this journey and I cant wait to see where you go with this. I am curious how easy/hard it will be to figure the software out. I saw in one of the posts that parts of it are in German. Good luck and keep the content coming. And .... GO GATORS!

+Neil Chirico I have a durametric as well. There are a lot of things it can’t do that the PIWIS can.

@@HelpMeDIY thanks for letting me know. I was able, with your additional advice, to get it downloaded and operational today. It took some doing but I got it all figured out. Interestingly I had the same 2 issues that you had so your video and advice really helped me. Now I just need to order the device. Thanks again for your videos!!! Can't wait for some Cayman videos. I've always wanted one.

Hi Aaron. Really enjoying all your vids. Plan to replace the vario cam pads engine in as you showed. One question about PIWIS. I am planning to buy a Piwis 2 from a neighbor but the Panasonic CF35 laptop that it originally came with is bricked and you can't log on to the software in the laptop. Might be a bios password or hdd issue. My question is do you think that I setup the vitural machine on another laptop and connect the hardware (oem not a copycat) that it would work? Do you need a separate license or log in id and password? thanks for any help. I am afraid my ims is done in and I'd like to get the cam deviations for any leads.

+John Paeng thanks! I assume the OEM PIWIS would not work with the VM, but I have no proof either way. Never had one.

Hey man, I am starting to investigate how to set-up a piwis computer with minimal budget. I've seen ready-made solutions, laptop included, going for 1K+. But except for the OBD2 connector, this is just an ISO image cloned to a computer... so I fail to see the justification for disbursing all that cash. Therefore, thanks a lot for making this video! I have a question for you: what made you go for piwis2 instead of piwis3? As far as I know, the latter is backwards compatible and includes support for newer Porsche models, in case that's needed.

Aaron, do you know if this Piwis will work with a Mac? I have an email in to them but they are a bit slow to respond. I happen to have an older Mac desktop and trying to see if I can just use that in my garage instead of a laptop or tablet. I know very little about computers! Thanks, -Tom

Great videos. So you bought the PIWIS hardware, and downloaded PIWIS 2 software for free? The PIWIS software doesn't need any updates or current connection to function? I need to code and program some modules. I was going to use Durametric Pro for this. Would your PIWIS setup be a suitable alternative? My Porsches are 2009 and 2010.

I hadn't given the PIWIS system any consideration and was going to probably get Durametric (currently got a pro cable on rent). Is there any difference in capability between the two? What made you choose the PIWIS route? Where are you getting the hardware from?

+Julian Kenny I have a durametric as well. The PIWIS is what the dealers use and has a lot more functionality. For instance, I’m going to use it to do the vehicle handover to reenable some stuff that got disabled when the battery died. Got it from some website. Ships from overseas. Should have it Monday. PIWIS 2 Tester is the compatible one I found.

usng VM to work around compatibility problems is best avoided. it will ususually just supplant one group of combatability problems for another.
