That's some good advice, finally installed mine today, didn't brake the c clip but still made these nippings and welded small bit just in case, tested it on the rain few clutch kicks and it really locks it up enough for a spin! We will see for how long and how reliable it will be, hopefully won't destroy my diff as I applied threadlock properly, used oil everywhere and c clip is safe. Will not abuse it just use it as the product states what it's for, will keep you updated.

Thanks guys. I bought your Mercedes kit (RD5018) even though my model was not on the fitment list. My car is W203 C 200 KOMPRESSOR with 5 speed automatic. The only modification I had to do was to machine the center holes of this kit from ~27,8mm to 29mm to fit the axles in. It should still be fine to use, as the friction shims themselves have a center hole of ~30,6mm. The fitment seems perfect otherwise. Still need to install the diff back to the car and test it.

Did it work fine?

@@toyotaavensis2754 So far I've driven only a few hundred kilometres with the kit. Spirited driving on dirt roads were fun enough at least. For me, the real purpose of this kit is to get better traction for daily winter driving on ice, snow, slush, etc... I've been getting stuck everywhere with the open diff. Car being lowered sure doesn't help either haha. This add-on kit tries to do the best it can, but of course it can never match the performance and durability of a purpose designed LSD. The diameter and surface area of the friction disks are so small, they will certainly struggle with higher loads. So, not much to say about it yet. I'll be wiser after the first winter.

Hi, I got an bmw e39 and it's got an open diff so I discovered this and I'm getting a set in the near future, it's a great product from these videos that I've watched if I don't want to weld the gears and want to have both wheels spinning and not spend a thousand on a locker or the regural lsd and it's possible to disassemble it aswell unlike a welded diff and the inspection will probably go smoothly unlike with welded it's not allowed for legal driving where I live. I'm going to make a video about it and do my best to install it correctly thanks for these informative videos. also I noticed nowadays the kits are upgraded so there is no need to grind the gears down which is amazing just the axels which is way easier aswell

Is there a reason why you shouldnt just spot weld the pin, on both sides for good measure? You can always grind the weld of when time for dissasemly comes. Or am I missing something?
@RacingDiffs5 ай бұрын
Yes. Actually, the carrier is made from the material that is not good for welding.

How stiff are the springs, compared to valve springs? Could you use a harder spring for more lock?
