Great channel, you've got a lot of helpful content for us F150/ Bronco owners. I've got a 94 F150 had a shudder at moderate acceleration since new. Drained trans and torque converter added 13 quarts new fluid and a fresh filter, shudder went away I guess I got lucky. That was at @60K miles now at 116K still no shudder.

Thanks man!🤙 I appreciate it. With low mileage transmissions, my advice is to always do what you did. Fluid is the life blood of an automatic transmission. If it’s not right, things won’t work properly.

Need to try to find a way to support the motor when you pull out the transmission. I had a shop do mine one time and they broke off part of my emission piping on the back of the engine. There's a one way valve on that pipe that they broke off. It's the piping that goes to your EGR valve. So try to find you a way to put you a block of wood against the firewall and the engine or something.

Any tips to decide whether the issue is the torque converter vs trans? With?without overdrive on. Typically between 30-50, truck gets a pretty bad shudder situation. Trans shifts good under load, like doing a "pulll" getting onto highway. Downshifts. Jusy seems like it only does it with low rpm part throttle situations. 95 302, 240k miles, ive replaced plugs, distributor, wires, coil, cleaned intake manifold-(pvc valve), and throttle position sensor. Which corrected all engine codes (gets the 111 all clear pass on scanner)

There are a series of tests you can perform to assess the TC. Typically you plug a test gauge into the test port on the driver’s side of the transmission. Then you hold the brake down and quickly and briefly hit the throttle pedal. What you are noting is where the RPMs reach. So you will need a tachometer cluster to perform this test. I found a write up online on how to do it years ago.

Could you please do a video on how to replace a fuel tank selector valve my truck needs a new one but there’s no videos on the subject that shows how to install it or remove the fuel lines
@TheMinuteMasters2 жыл бұрын
What year truck do you have? My year only has a switch but previous years had an actual valve. I can tell you, you will need to relieve the fuel pressure from the lines. I show how to do that in my fuel filter replacement video. I think after that step, it’s probably a simple unscrewing game.

I am redoing my truck completely and I pulled the tc out. I am beginning to put it back together and slot if the fluid spilled out of torque converter when I was moving it. Should I drain it all out before I put it back in or should I just add fluid back? Is there a way to know when it’s full? Thanks for all of your helpful videos!!
@TheMinuteMasters Жыл бұрын
I’d just add back in the amount that spilled. There’s no exact amount. Most shop manuals recommend filling the TC with 2-3 quarts prior to install.

Does anyone know if you change your gear ratio on your truck should you install a torque converter with a different stall speed or does it affect your torque converter at all
@TheMinuteMasters Жыл бұрын
I switched from 3.08 to 3.55 gears and I still have the same TC. You don’t need to do anything with the TC.

Hey how can you tell if either your transmission is going out or if its the tourqe converter? Also if the tourqe converter is going out would it be the transmission causing it? Thanks
@TheMinuteMasters Жыл бұрын
When I had a bad torque converter I’d get a noticeable and short vibration between 40 mph and 50 mph. A stall test is usually how you determine if your TC is bad.

Would a bad torque converter cause the truck to stall out when reversing??
@TheMinuteMasters2 жыл бұрын
That’s hard to say. First, have you read your codes? Is your transmission fluid still red and at the correct level.
@logant7985 Жыл бұрын
Just curious, I have a 97’ f250 & it has a shudder in reverse & the forward gears have to be manually shifted for it to grab properly but it will lose speed going up any steep hill. I’m expecting a transmission rebuild but do you think it could be the TC?
@TheMinuteMasters Жыл бұрын
It sounds like your TC is bad. However, I would do a few tests first. Is the fluid fresh and at the proper level while hot and running? I would get a transmission pressure gauge and I would measure the fluid pressure in your transmission. I know in my truck there is a test port on the driver side of the transmission. Lastly, I would perform a stall test. You need a tachometer to do it properly. Essentially you hold down on the brake pedal and you hit the gas quickly and you see where your rpm goes to. You check that with the factory specs and that will tell you if you have the proper stall speed. Aka can also tell you if the TC is bad.

@@logant7985 Ok, I don’t know the standards off the top, my head, you’ll have to research and see if that matches the stall speed typical for your transmission.

FOR FORD YOU ABSOLUTELY WANT MOTORCRAFT OE RECAMENDED FLUID FORD HAS ALSO CAME OUT WITH MANY TSB ON THIS, AS A PROFESSIONAL THIS GUY LOST ME WITH THE ORIELLY FLUID. FORD TRANSMISSIONS ARE NOT FORGIVING. IF FLUID IS UNIVERSAL SPECIFIC FLUID WOULD NOT EXIST
@TheMinuteMasters Жыл бұрын
So must use Motorcraft brand Mercon V instead of O’Rielly branded Mercon V? What would be the difference? Would they both have to adhere to a strict spec?
@JokersHangout Жыл бұрын
Maybe you should check some specifics, there is universal yes. But why do all these specific types exist? Why does Ford say mercon v only yet universal will burn the transfer case. All have different chemicals an viscosity like oil just tell everyone 0 30 an they'd all work but whooooooooooo weeee would it be good. Stick to spec. An you will never go wrong.
