i took ziplock bags and labeled them " front seats", "rear seats" , "carpet clips", etc etc - this way you dont lose any hardware and you know where it all goes. Nice video and I am glad I watched because I was going to throw out the old carpet but now I know I may need it as a template for holes.

Ziplock bags = great idea, Pepe! It's way too easy to misplace a screw or two.

nice job i have a 94 civic with 450,000 kms on it my floor boards on drivers side are rotted out. I worked in the honda factory in the 90's and putting these carpets in lineside was one of the toughest jobs on the line.

dave houston Congrats on 450K, bummer about the rust. Rust Never Sleeps ... We've abandoned a couple of projects due to rusted frames over the years. It was a huge relief to see Slambo's floorboards in pristine condition when we ripped up the carpet. Was your Honda plant in North America? NJ had three auto plants - one GM and two Ford - but they're long gone.
@1232bluejays9 жыл бұрын
yes its just becoming too expensive to build cars in north America especially small cars. Most NA plants make the big hulking $30000 + SUvs and trucks because that's the only ones they can make money on

I'm a little late to the party, but I was wondering... how big of a noise difference did you notice with the mass backing vs the stock carpet? ... a lot less road noise, or maybe other noises are more noticeable now? Better conversation levels? Less radio volume needed? Less rattling? p.s. great video!!
@mpgomatic6 жыл бұрын
Fezlikesguns It’s quieter, but tough to say exactly how much quieter. My transmission is old and noisy! 😂 It would be interesting to test this process with another car, using a dB meter to measure levels on different road surfaces and speeds. Maybe one of these days when I have the time and money to spend. (It’s good to dream!) Thanks for the kinda words!

Thanks for this video. Makes it seem pretty possible to do the same thing on my 96 Accord coupe when the time comes, but I don't think I'll want to pull the carpet just to clean it which is what I was wondering about today - doing the first interior clean on my project car and after I pulled the seats and saw how nasty it was I wondered if it might be worth it! What is that wire from the driver seat for? I'm concerned I may have slightly damaged the tab on the connector when I did the driver seat second and didn't think to check if it had a wire after the passenger seat didn't, I just picked up the seat and yanked (oops).

I was at the civic/crv plant in alliston Ontario Canada. its the sister plant to the Marysville Ohio plant. Line jobs there are tough jobs non union plant.You must live in an area that gets little snow hence your rust free floor boards. Did you use grommets to put your new carpets in?
@danielgray85059 жыл бұрын
I bought the car from the second owner, but he only owned it for a short while. We get snow here in Jersey, but it looks like the car was garaged, fairly well maintained (other than the smelly/smoked interior), and possibly not driven much in winter. The only grommets I recall seeing were under the back seat. I haven't reinstalled the seat bottom (yet) ... it's kinda nasty ... I will do the grommets after I run the wire for the ($30!) rear view camera.

Thanks for this! I have an 02 civic ex with really nasty carpets. I don't know what the previous owner did to them, but it looks like they dumped coffee on the floor and never bothered to clean it up. I have had the carpets professionally detailed and when they were done there was no difference in the color. Although, the car did smell nicer! I am wondering if it would be worth my while to try to replace the carpet myself. This video doesn't make it look too difficult!

1:35 Did you really not save any weight when you replaced w/ the sparco seat and base? I had wanted to reduce the weight that way.
@mpgomatic3 жыл бұрын
The Sparco bases are hefty. I might pull a seat once the snow melts. That would allow me to put a Sparco combo and the OEM seat on a scale to weigh them. I can’t imagine that the difference is anywhere near what I’ve lost on the Keto diet. :)

Been wondering this, why does no one install a bench seat for the front in a Civic? Looks like there's not much there to truly interfere with it
@aquateen777239 жыл бұрын
Nice vid! I noticed that you put the seats in before the center console at the end. In the beginning, you removed the seats then the center console.
@mpgomatic9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words, aquateen77723! I still haven't reinstalled the console. I left it out (initially) in order to install a short-throw shifter (later that month) and the Sparco R100 seats (shortly after that). A custom center console is on the wish list.
@aquateen777239 жыл бұрын
MPGomatic I knew there was a reason. I have a 1995 Honda Accord coupe and the center console is loose where it bolts near the shifter. I think the plastic tab broke off or something. I was thinking of getting the short shifter kit also. Good luck with Slambo's build!
@mpgomatic9 жыл бұрын
aquateen77723 Thanks! Could be a tab or clip? The B&M short-throw and Energy Suspension polyurethane bushings made a huge difference. It went from sloppy to super-tight. $10 for the bushings was the best $10 I've spent on the car. =)

Put some modern style seats in there... And maybe an updated steering wheel and that thing would be freaking sweet! (And maybe a backup cam) it's awesome to see you modernize and update an older car and what a perfect example, a late 90s civic, the best subject of all! (Obviously it's not my money or effort so it's easy to sit here and say that) haha but I'm starting to think I would rather PAY for my older car to be updated with new tech and nice seats and carpet etc, than spend 3x that for a newer car!
@mpgomatic9 жыл бұрын
We're working' on it, Eighty cc! Did you see the Sparco R100 seat replacement and JVC head unit episodes? This link will take you to the playlist, starting with the Sparco segment: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2e7lWeroLWBmaM The JVC unit will accept a backup cam ... I picked one up for $30. Waiting for the weather to warm up before we install it. An aftermarket steering wheel would be cool, but I don't want to give up the airbag. There's a cheap cover on it now. I'm thinking about a stitched leather cover. This build is all about the cheap. :) Replacement carpet isn't that expensive and there are a ton of different color choices, but installation is time intensive. Seats can be REALLY expensive. We used the least expensive street Sparcos. Salvaged seats from a newer car can be a great way to go, but you need to be able to fabricate the mounts.

I have a 2000 civic & the carpets are getting worse with every rain. I’ve been trying to keep it covered but the damage is done. Now there’s mold. Repacking the carpet still leaves me with the original problem. Where’s the water coming from? The sunroof doesn’t seem to be the issue neither are the windows or doors. Any help would be appreciated.
@mpgomatic4 жыл бұрын
Could it be leaking from the back window, trunk, or windshield?
@victorybase58474 жыл бұрын
MPGomatic Thanks for the response. No not leaking from windows, not as far as I can tell. The floorboard, & the trunk interior floorboard are the only things that are wet after a rain. And when I say wet I mean soaked. Its not my daily driver & it stays parked half the year so by the time I noticed the problem it was already growing mold spots. I hate to replace the carpet only to ruin the new carpet.
