Word of advise people. Don't select "All experimental packages" to install. I wanted to see what would happen and 24 hours later it's still getting everything. Stick to the 1 hour set up in this video. You'll be glad you did.

THANK YOU. This totally smashed it. I followed the video virtually to the letter. I installed Linux Mint on a little laptop (1.2Ghz, 4GB ram, no GPU ram, 32GB SSD), and then followed the guide to install retro pie. I had an old USB gamepad knocking about, plugged it in and it all worked! It has six buttons and two triggers so was ideal for NES, and Megadrive.

Love this and have overhauled several old pcs for retro games. Thanks for your show's step by step approach you make this stuff a lot less confusing. Is there some trick or method you know of for doing this on some of these "hybrid/clone" OSs like Windowsfx 10? Everything in terminal seems to work the same until last step, but a "reboot" command in terminal just shuts it all down and restarts login screen like nothing happened.

Hey I've had success using etcher to burn Recalbox to an internal HDD to do something similar and would be a good video to do along these same lines for someone who would like something like this but also have a built-in Kodi. It turned an old laptop into a great portable entertainment machine.

Thanks for the walkthrough, I have not set it up yet but I will be turning my current PC into a monstrous emulation machine as soon as my new PC parts arrive so that I can build my nice, new Ryzen 7 based machine. I guess having an i7-4790k with a GTX970 will be overkill for an emulation machine; but I honestly can't think of anything else to do with it.. so what the hell, why not have some fun and install retropie!! At least I know that it will be future proof in regards to emulation.. for now at least. One question I did have though, regards the storage used by Linux/Retropie. If I decide to install more than one SSD/HDD into the Linux computer that retropie x86 will be running on, is there a way I can choose where roms go? Say for instance I want to put CD/DVD based roms for ps2 onto an HDD because storage space but want the speed of the SSD for actual operation system function and quick small roms like for NES, is this possible? Basically.. 1 SATA SSD, 1 SATA HDD; roms on both drives?

Awesome as always... Love to do a continuation video showing more advanced ways on how to install proprietary GPU drivers for Nvidia, Intel and Radeon (rather than using mesa or third-party), Redream, PPSSPPSDL 1.8 with Vulkan support, PS2 optimized settings, Steam games and a whole load of emulators that you can add via repo's for Ubuntu and have them run straight from EmulationStation. Basically a whole heep of things that ain't in the wiki ;)

How does this compair with Recallbox/ batocera? Isnt this a way better option if you have a discrete GPU? From what I can tell, batocera flat out does not support gtx 10 series GPUs and has limited GPU support on general.

Hi Mr ETA Prime, I must say your videos have really opened up scope for me and helped in many ways. Thanks for your no fluff, no BS presentations. I currently have a really good 128gig Retropie image for my Pie. I tried to convert it to work on a PC but had limited success. I installed retropie onto my PC and then dragged over the rom folders from my other image. Some miss shaders, some dont work and others work fine. I was wondering if one day you might do a video about converting an image file from Retropie to working on a PC. Thanks Mr Prime ;)
