Very informative. This video solved my problem when retrofitting a Webasto water heater in/under my Renault van. I found the lock washers in my possession a bit weak. Instead of using lock washers, I made several radial punches with a sharp chisel on the contact surface of the nut.

Also for any would be warriors, if you want to use these often, there are riv nut tools in the 60-100$ range some mechanical and some pneumatic. Any company that chooses riv nuts over standard bolt and nuts, gets an A+ in my book.

LOL. No problem. Just make sure that if you do the bolt and nut trick, your nut is oversized and has the threads removed. Or you can get the bolt and nut set from us.
@willparfet89127 жыл бұрын
MetalCloak why can't the bolt and nut be the same thread size? About to do this tomorrow for another project and got the same size nut as bolt to do this.
@metalcloak7 жыл бұрын
Sorry I missed your reply. Did you figure it out? The Nut is just a guide. If it still has it's thread it will tighten up and not work. Having the threads removed allows it to spin as a guide.

Not a question we could confidently answer. We use them to mount our body armor and fenders to the stock sheet metal of Jeeps.

Great video! Any suggestions for installing rivnuts when you can not get to the back side of the riv nut?
@RichGastwirt8 жыл бұрын
+Jackie Gammon That's the entire point of rivet nuts - you use them when you don't have access to the back. You insert them through the front and they crimp

Installing your Overland Fenders this weekend - How do you know when to stop tightening the nut ? ie so you dont over tighten. Can you use an air ratchet or is this not advisable?
@matsonian27 жыл бұрын
We've seen people use air ratchets, but it's not advisable. As far as when to stop tightening them, you really cannot over tighten them. Go until they are solidly in place.

Thanks for the info and quick reply. Looking forward to my install this weekend. Powder coated the tubes and underside black and tops are Mopar Bright white to match the jeep. Gonna look bad ass !!!

ALOT EASIER to do in heavy guage steel like that. In 18 guage body panels, these tend to spin loose, causing the bolt to strip threads. Happened to 5 of mine and now im having to replace them all. Very frustrating ... where can i get replacements?

Are they water tight
@metalcloak6 жыл бұрын
As tight as a bolt through a hole. You can add silicon if you want them to be sealed water tight.

How are you be able to do it on a 19/64 size? The bolt and nut I'm using are too small and I can't seem to screw without it breaking. Any ideas? Thanks
@metalcloak7 жыл бұрын
Get a better bolt? You are going to want to make sure you are using the same set up we are... the nut needs to be clear of any threads, and you bolt should be a grade 8.

Hi I have two wielded nuts for my steering box that broke in the frame, can I use these to replace them?

worts way to install an insert. For a manufacturer its not the Wright way, you have dril in one time and install you the good tool.

hi, how much torque can each nut hold before it starts to rotate and loosen up?
@metalcloak8 жыл бұрын
Done right it should never rotate - it should pinch the metal and become a semi permanent part of that new structure.

So these are perfect for installing light bar brackets correct ? Cause I'm looking for something like this to hold my brackets up with. Or would you suggest something different for a light bar ?
@metalcloak8 жыл бұрын
These are only to use in locations where you cannot get a bolt all the way through. If you can put a bolt through and you have access for adding a nut, then you do not need these. However, if there is no way to add a nut then these could work. We sell them specifically for our body armor products - corner guards, exo skins, etc.
@jasonjackson3298 жыл бұрын
+MetalCloak I've had to give up on this method cause mine start to pull rivet in place and then becomes so tight that I can't get the bolt back out. Idk if maybe the rivet nuts I've got are way to stiff and requires a actual tool or what. But mine are silver in color and are the 5/16 thread and have like a 3/8 hole size.
