This is awesome to see. The wine bottle jig idea originally came from my dad when Nate and I were building my boat in his garage in 2019.

Like your rod tube build. Very clean finish. Maybe in a future build you can build a rod tunnel for 20+ rods. I run socks on all my rods, even with tubes.

Check into a heat blanket for shaping the pipe. That’s what we use and works great

Router table. 1/8" roundover bit on the inside of the tube before flaring. No sanding needed after.

I would think you could rig the tubes to a drill and a support at the flared end and possibly wet sand them while the drill is rotating slowly. The cheap version of a lathe.

@fireant fishing Did you try using ABS pipes? They are cheaper and much lighter than PVC SCH40 pipes.

I believe these were pvc

How big is the opening of the hatch ? Length where rods go in

If the tubes are only 48" long, how do you keep the guides from catching on the far end of the tube when you try to remove the rod?

I’m capping the end of my tubes for this very reason…also using thin wall PVC for weight and cost diff. .0800 thick for tube holder frames too. A little excessive but I want a shallow storage built in on the back end. My question to FIREANT - if you don’t use a clear coat or something on the silver paint for tubes, does paint wear off over time? What would you use for clear coat?

Yes, using SCH40 pipes is way too thick and heavy for this application. Drain pipes are sufficient and cheaper.

Wish I could post pics..chrome on thin wall came out sick. Also I heated the actual body of a Antique soda bottle while holding pvc in one hand to rotate, heat gun on middle body of bottle, and cowboy boots on to hold bottle in place. Literally can get proper shaping without burning pvc any. Minor sanding is all you need for paint prep

Try using a Dremel

When you’re put you PVC Tubes in just use a rag with some Dishwashing Liquid on it and they should slide in much easier
