Wondering as a simple DIY er , can you use the liquid lead type filler that comes in tubes , to secure it in/seal it rather than just cement pointing ? Is it beter or no to do that ,Can anyone advise me please?

Im a 3rd generation roofer with 26yrs exp.If a felt roof has more that 15 degree fall then the felt must be nailed but you shouldnt be able to see the nails. The nails go on the salvage along the edge of each sheet and are covered by the next sheet and the same gets done along the verge before the verge flashing is fitted. If this isnt done the felt will slide and wrinkle in extremley hot weather ;o)

Would you use use a sharp sand mortar mix to fill in that void after the flashing is secured and clean up with a sponge for a nice finish?

Lead being tucked into the cut chase should return up inside it like and L shape and be fixed with brass screws, washers and rawlplugs. Read the Lead sheet manual, this is the recommended method. Cutting and chiselling in lead straps damages the lead! The chase should then be sealed by first brushing on a mastic primer and then using lead sheet sealant. I've been doing leadwork for 35 years as a plumber. Just because you can torch on a bit of felt, doesn't mean that you can do leadwork too!

I have to agree 100% , it always chancres who post videos on building trades. This guy is simply a first class chancer.. The section of lead that goes into the wall should be at least 40mm have a upturn on it to stop water perpetration in to the mortar. He then puts one lead wedge in place and knocks the s...t out of , causing the lead flashing to buckle. It not rocket science, you place all your wedges in place and tap them gently in rotation , till they are sweet. No need for brute force

with no roofing cement under the flashing, the water will still flow into that gap and then under the flashing no? I don't see anything to prevent that. is the flashing here just a mechanical protection of the roofing felt under it?

Watch the video again. He did mention that is how you install the lead flashing and also mentioned to fill it up with mortar "to make as watertight as possible", but hey if you skip the video you can no blame anyone other than yourself.

You should have put a spring clip on the top of the counter flashing. Might have been better to use termination bar on that particular wall.

That's how you install a lead flashing eh? Bugger I've been doing it wrong all these yrs then mate cos I tend to knock the 'bungs' in not tickle em. Also you stated 25mm into your chase but that flashing was hardly into the wall, no nip 'n' tuck on your side lap, patination oil is a nice idea... and point the wall up, assuming your not talking compo?

Seems the sarcasm and criticism comes from the US. In Britain we get on and do the job, in the US there's too many on KZbin trying to be superior about how it's done. Churches are only good for the lead.

Lots of issues here; 1. The modified bitumen wall flashing is not nailed off. Big head concrete nails in to mortar must be used. 2. How are you addressing the gap between brick and lead? water will go behind and rot the brick. This job needs rejection.

contd ..Most professional tradesmen would cover the area of roofing with a plywood sheets or dust sheets to prevent damage to the new felt surface. Felt membranes are easily damaged scratched etc , and theirs nothing looks asbad as a new green mineral felt roof with scratches , dents etc. Their are professional out there who are masters at this work , but sadly they never ever post videos of their work. Manufactures should post videos using only highly skilled tradesmen. It in their interest.

mulders drift I'm retired from the 3rd largest commercial and industrial roofing company in the USA with sales of $75 to $120 million a year ,we don't post videos of our work because a small job for us is 1,000 squares and it's got 40 men working on the roof ,for my son's high school wood shop project I took my son to work with me so he could make a video demonstration of " How To " from start to finish ,it took him filming for 5 days on a 1,200 square tear off to capture tear off ,deck replacement, itnstallingnstalling a base layer of insulation ,then a tapered insulation system , tuck pointing bad masonry before flashing over , rebuilding several rotten chimneys ,installing the roof and dozens of details like pitch pans ,soil pipe leads ,lead roof drains etc before we even got to installing the final layer of cap sheet ,itnstallingnstalling turned out to be a 4 hour epic lmfao ,if I could figure out how to put a VHS tape on KZbin I'd download the thing .

Not really a roofers job? unless you can find a plumber who is over 100 years of age from back in the days when plumbers used to do lead work. Ask a plumber now how to lead dress or weld and they cant they all claim to know until you ask them to do it.
