How to Install RPM No Clip Body Mounts on a Traxxas Slash 4x4

Great video and nice product, perhaps it would be better for the body to keep all holes round and insert the locks in the back after you screwed on the radiator to the body. Also id recommend using larger nuts, in the front as well as in the back. If im gonna buy this at some point, id recommend 3d printing the ones for the front, also these things also excist larger in metal, not sure of their name tho

Thank you for your feedback Dennis. The fun part about this hobby is that there are so many ways to go about doing the same thing. If you'd like to assemble it with holes instead of slots, please feel free to do so. There are a couple of reasons why we didn't do it that way in our tutorial and instructions. First, using a 17/32" (13.5mm) drill bit for the lock posts through lexan is a sketchy proposition. The body is too thin and large drill bits typically grab when drilling through thin materials. Also, not many people have access to a drill motor that can hold a drill bit over 1/2" in diameter. A step drill would work great but again, not everyone has a step drill available to them. Our instructions are targeted to those individuals with minimal tools. Second, if you want to remove the radiator / locking mechanism for any reason, you'd have to remove the fans / lock feet at the same time. The slots in the body for the lock feet allow the radiator unit to come off as an assembly simply by removing 4 screws. With respect to the nut size, the size we use is perfect for the application. Additionally, there is very little clearance on the back side of the body between the body and the support platform the body rests against. Any larger sized nut will cause interference. If you're worried about the nut pulling through, it's not an issue because we use washers. Lastly, we're not sure why you'd want to 3D print any of the components of our Body Mounting System. Molded components are much stronger than an equivalent 3D printed part and ours have a limited lifetime warranty against breakage so there's no need. Yes a normal drill wouldnt work, step drill would indeed, but you could also use the exacto for it. 3d printing was just meant to get a larger surface on the hood, but yes you might not need it. Still both washers in the front and rear seem real small to me compared to the original white washers for the clips. Might not be necessary tho since it clamps the body beween the screw and the part, im sure you figured it out! Plus you could still remove it with it installed since as you say, the body is flexible. Hope you understand my thoughts too

Just installed my new A-arms today, and now I am really wanting to do this mod, along with rear tire carrier and bumper for my 4x4 Slash, I mainly just want the fan assembly for the looks. It's so sick! I would LOVE the option of that being available for purchase separately from the full kit for a strictly aesthetic install. Any chance of that being a possibility, now or in the future? I'm already committed to buying the tire carrier and rear bumper, but just not sure I wanna abandon my body clips... Call me crazy and old fashioned. Who do I gotta buy a drink for over there to push this deal through? LOL

Thank you for the kudos RN. We love the way the radiator / fan assembly looks too. While an aesthetic only fan assembly isn't in the works just yet, it has been discussed by our product development team a time or two. Hopefully we'll get to making that happen in the near future.

Hi Ray. Yes, we do offer a spare tire carrier for both the Slash 2wd and Slash 4x4. Actually we have two different options. We have a single tire carrier like you see in this video or we have a dual tire carrier also available. The single tire carrier is RPM #73952 while the dual tire carrier is RPM #70502. Unfortunately we don't have an install video for either of these but they go together quite easily. I did find some RPM customers that did install videos so one should be easy to find if you'd like to see how they go together.

It doesn't change the performance of the truck, but it does simplify the removal and installation of the body and you won't lose body clips anymore.

There are no dumb questions when you're learning Jason. Welcome to our great hobby! They're called plastic cutters. They look very similar to wire cutters, but the blades are much sharper. Tamiya makes a great set but almost any will work fine. Do a Google search for "plastic cutters" and you'll find a wide range of good options.

No it has not, but just from a brief overview, it appears to be the same body style with just a paint change. Contact Traxxas to see if this is the case. You might be able to ask what the unpainted body part number of that version would be and then compare that number to our list of compatible bodies on our website.

Very late to this post I see, would this work for a 2wd stampede if I were to use one of the body’s mentioned in this video?? I believe the shock towers are identical so as you have removed the body mounts and replaced with this kit, surely as long i used one of the two recommended body’s for the kit this should fit on my pede?

That's an interesting question suzikirider. While the Slash 2wd and Stampede 2wd share numerous components, the Slash is a longer chassis. I did a rough check, and from shock to shock, front to rear, there's a difference of roughly 1.5" (38mm). For that reason alone, it is highly unlikely our system would allow one of the compatible bodies to fit your Stampede. You may be able to swap to a Slash chassis and use many of the components from your Stampede to do a conversion though. At that point, you'd be good to go.

Hi Moto! Yes, it works with either the LCG or HCG chassis because it is based off of the stock body mounts, which are identical in both chassis versions.

Absolutely! The Single Tire Carrier you see at the beginning of this video is identical to the Dual Tire Carrier in all ways except for the tire mount. The truck in the video is running our Rear Shock Tower as well. Just make sure you're running one of the recommended bodies and you're good to go!

Hi Jesus. Not necessarily. While most Traxxas wheels use a 12mm hex adapter, there are other considerations that you need to look at. While most 12mm hex adapter wheels will fit other 12mm systems, will the wheel clear the castor block? Will the wheel clear the a-arm? Is the offset too deep or too narrow to clear the body and other vital internals? If you're looking to fit a particular wheel on a particular vehicle, please send us an e-mail through the contact page on our website and we'll see if our tech rep's can give you a better idea of whether or not the wheel you want will fit your particular application.

Absolutely! The video intro shows a single tire spare tire carrier but it will work with either the single or dual carrier perfectly. Obviously proper body clearing will be needed but otherwise, the two do not interfere.

WOuld think you'd want the front clip piece to be mounted the other way around, so you slide the body back vs foward to lock it into place. With it the way you have, if you lawn dart into the ground, the body is going to push back/buckle, then pop out of the clip. Or at least it looks like it would. How long until you make something like this for the stampede 4x4?!?!?! I'm really not liking how my body posts are tearing up the body so quickly.

Hi Bryan. Thank you for your feedback. We actually thought of that but the problem is, the body nestles in behind the front bumper so there's no way to get the movement needed to slide the body rearward into a catch. Additionally, you can say the same thing about rear impacts pushing the body forward (we're good for this scenario). Instead, we opted for a full 1" of catch lock. If you manage to lawn dart your truck and get a full inch (25mm) of movement of the body from the impact, a loose body will be the least of your worries! ;) The bright side is, the rear lock will still hold so if the truck is still driveable, you can drive it back to reset the body. As for the Stampede 4x4, no plans just yet. We're still waiting to see how well received the Slash versions are. If they do well, you can bet we'll start coming out with other versions for other vehicles.

I see your point with the front mount. I guess I was thinking more for the stampede since it has the wheelie bar back there to keep the body from hitting. That's good to hear about the stampede. I just ripped my rear mounts through the body. Guessing it's hitting something somewhere hard enough to crack it.

Not necessarily Johnny. Please remember that you're removing your stock body mounts and replacing them with this system. While it is marginally heavier than the stock body mounts, with today's brushless power-plants and LiPo batteries, you most likely won't notice a difference unless you're racing at the peak world's levels.
