I'm really interested getting this for my motorcycle. but I'm confused about the ring gap process. I understand the purpose is to make sure rings are inside toleramces, but what do you do if you find yourself out of these tolerances?

If your ring gap reads out of tolerance, you will want to very gently file the ring down to get the correct gap.

What's the purpose of gapping the rings? Just to make sure there is a gap or to make sure it's within tolerance before you go through all the effort? Im a little confused on the purpose
@SSCycleInc4 жыл бұрын
Ring gap is critical, too much and you risk blow by, too little and rings bind and hurt themselves.

Great video! Is there anything else you did to tune the bike with the increased displacement? I’ve read that on older carbureted sportsters it is necessary to change the ignition module, is that true? If not, do you need to reset the ignition timing at all? Can the stock carb still be used, do you install bigger jets? I’ve already put in bigger jets in my carb after I did a stage 1 upgrade. I’m looking at buying a s&s 1200 kit for my 2000 883, so any further info about what I might need to do aside installing the kit itself would be appreciated! Thanks

Jet kit or replacement carb is important. Stock ignition will work fine. For the stock carb we like the Dynojet kit. Otherwise a well tuned S&S e-carb works great.

@SSCycleInc4 жыл бұрын
Case (block) is the same on 883 and 1200. Sleeve (the tube piston rides on inside of the cylinder) is same OUTSIDE diameter on both models, the inside diameter of the sleeve determines the CC's and is smaller on the 883 models. That help?
