Check your ring end gap? and never put the top ring gap towards the exhaust port. don't put the lower pushrod cvr o ring over the big end, top down. no oil in the cylinder? for start up?.are those new head bolts? and no oil on the top flange of the head bolts? thickness of head gasket will change the compression ratio.

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to put bigger jugs on an engine but leave small diameter heads, (weird shaped combustion chamber), valves, carbs or fuel injection system. Seems like a LOT of wasted potential (horsepower). I mean the spherical radius of the head diameter matched the diameter of the piston. The new setup means the combustion chamber now has a flat surface all around the diameter of the hemi shaped old combustion chamber because the piston diameter is so much larger. (looking at it with the head on, from the bottom of the jug, upside down on the bench. You could see the flat surface as a mismatch) Also, the piston will be coming up to almost hit the bottom of the head because it hangs over the top of the cylinder. Seems to me this is NOT the way to get more power as it only does a half of the job. Also must Raise the compression ratio to the sky. I can only see a bike that is finicky at best, and not meant for long term reliability. Todd, you as always do an impeccable job! : { ) 👌👍 (But where is the rest of the kit?)
@hankbrown39594 жыл бұрын
This isnt a moto gp bike- its an 883 sportster with a $1500.00 big bore kit. Most people can do this job, and the low milage 883 market is huge. this upgrade is a great way to get more power and an affordable Harley to have fun on.
@randyandtheretreads31444 жыл бұрын
I agree and had same Q but you'd get more compression this way and with the smaller ports compared to the bigger bores a venturi effect so probably more low rpm torque than an original 1200. At higher rpm the proper original 1200 would produce more power if it has bigger ports.
@bryanbsa89274 жыл бұрын
@@randyandtheretreads3144 LOL, 'scuse me, I need proof and dyno results. Some fluid dynamics and flow testing. I see no comment from the company that makes this. I still maintain this is SHADETREE ENGINEERING. Oh, the only venturi in an engine, is in a Carb. Maybe your thinking The swirl in a combustion chamber as the air rushes in. It's all ready proven that a hemi shape produces a clean steady burn. Why mess with it. Don't get me started!!!!!! lol
@thomaskirkpatrick40312 жыл бұрын

Why even buy a 883? I don't think a 1200 uses much more fuel.
@hankbrown39594 жыл бұрын
You can get them on the used market for a great price. Lots of beginners didn't take to riding and the bikes sit for a year or so- then sold for cheap. I bought a 2004 with some chrome peeling for $2000.00 last summer.
@SoldatX24 жыл бұрын
I bought an 883 09' used with lots of aftermarket parts included, Arlen Ness parts that include the MF exhaust, air cleaner, covers, gas cap, BIG Shot calibrator. Its a nice bike. I have recently added some hard bags and a T Sport fairing for commutes to work. But for a bike I got for 3800, its nice. I definitely know I want to size up for my next bike. I'm digging the Dynas. Edit: its also my introduction into the motorcycle world and Harley's in general. Not a bad introduction with a basic bike to learn on and make mistakes. I know I would feel bad dropping a better bike.

@@SoldatX2 Where were ya mostly looking , all ova , Social media, Craigslist etc?
@SoldatX24 жыл бұрын
@@aphysique I searched on both Craigslist and Facebook marketplace. Summer is a good time to buy bikes as its hotter and some people don't like to ride during this time thus making it harder to sell a bike. At least that is the case in AZ. Be patient and you will find a good bike. Also don't be afraid to haggle. The seller wanted 4500 but went down to 3800. This bike had been for sale for 1 month which played into my favor and the fact that not many people ride. Go see it in person though, to show the seller you have genuine interest. *Edit* Consider and 07' and up Sportster if you want no frills Fuel Injection. Its a little more convenient and the maintenance is easier by removing the fuel system from the equation.

Oil in the head bolts!!??? That’s a good way to crack the heads, they say not to put oil in head bolts because it can hydrolock the bolt and you’ll not only get the wrong torque but can crack the head or bolt
@cyclhed4 жыл бұрын
Daniel Lucido He only put a small amount to lube the threads, not fill up the screws, any excess will run out before it has any chance to “hydro lock”. The factory manual actually tells you to oil the studs and the mating surface of the screw, where it contacts the head.
