Thanks for the demo. I have been trying to find a contractor to fix mysoffits, squirrels have ripped them out but no one wants to do small jobs. I,m pretty good at doing repairs myself For a retired woman and now I’m going to do it.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I recently bought my first house and it doesn’t have any soffit vents on it. Only plywood at around 15 degree angle with 4 vents on each side, front and back. This video made it not seem so hard for someone who has no idea on any sort of remodeling. Thank you!

This is a great video! I’ve had to rebuild things a handyman did wrong- or finish jobs because the next guy doesn’t show up. From now on I’ll just KZbin and do it all myself! Thank you for this one- birds are pulling out insulation or nesting inside because my guy just can’t seem to get back for 2 weeks to put it up. I’ll do it myself now that I see how!!

Thanks. My house had been constructed and they used staples to attach the soffits. Some have pulled loose. Had someone come out and they wanted $750 to fix a few droopy J channels. Your video motivated me to do it myself.

I have been in a discussion about soffit application and you mentioned leaving a little looseness in the flange connection for expansion contraction . This helps me to make my point on why you should not run nails or screws thru the material anywhere other than the slotted holes provided. Although sometimes it becomes necessary to use a trim nail here and there. The discussion is primarily about starting the soffit from top center of a rake and working down in both directions . Bending the top piece in the center and thus going backwards in one direction. I think its wrong for a few reasons.

Thank you so much for a detailed video. I am not looking to do that. I have no skill in this. I had a contractor come out to diagnose why attic is so hot and he says "6 sections of perforated soffit panels should be cut down, cut openings in wood soffits to clear away insulation blocking air flow and reinstall removed panels". This all sounds greek and latin to me :-) and he is quoting $960, Is this at least in the ballpark. I am not trying to underestimate skills here but don't want to pay double for something that's simple. Your video helped to understand why we need soffit panels (airflow). Ours is a 25+ year old house and generally in a great condition (to provide context), Wondering whether this is normal or unusual in a old house that they did not vent the attic properly.

I have same hurricane damage in SWFL. looks like step one is to remove the existing fascia. I just have random mangled soffits do I need to take a whole section out and start over?

I notice you say you cut the soffit short to allow for expansion and contraction which I totally agree is a good idea. Then I noticed you put screws in the valley of your soffit material which doesn't have a slotted hole and you put the screw in tight so that the soffit can't move, the same with the screw you put in the manufactured edge which does have a sotted hole. So my question is should it not be fastened using the slotted hole and maybe make another hole in the valley to allow it to expand and contract??

The sides of my house were done in soffit; it's not meant to shingle water like siding does. I have Masonite soffits and the support at the top of the wall is all termite eaten so I'm looking at replacing all of it. I like the vented. I'm going to put new siding on because I need to replace the Masonite lap board on the walls with OSB.

I am putting soffit and siding on a large workshed to match my home. The Hight is 13.5 feet. I have a problem with boring bees and wasps that I can't reach, so I will probably go with a solid soffit to keep them out.. But can i put up the soffit first before putting on my siding? Thanks! It would have been nice to see a picture of the screws you used. Definitely looked easy enough. However it didn't show how to cut the facia if your existing board is a 2x4 instead of a 2x6.

What kind of blade do I need to use, I tried to use my chopsaw and it seemed to have a blade with quite a few teeth but it chipped up the ends of the siding and didn’t make a great cut? Any suggestion on blades would be appreciated? Thanks
