Didn't need to mess with my soffit, but since replacing my asbestos siding, I realized i need to replace the plywood because it is rotted. And now I need to replace the soffit. Thank you so much for taking the time to give us the detailed instructions. I just hope my work comes out at least somewhat as good as your awesome example on your video. It's people like you who help save us all a little money. Especially, in the days we live in.

I install shingles, fascia, soffits, siding, plus more. Your videos are extremely helpful man. Especially for the fact that you're not only teaching viewers, but you're also showing us how to do it ourselves. I commend you for that bro. One of us on the job at some point or another has had to wait on help so they could get things to line up or whatever the case is. No more waiting

Got an estimate to do siding and was close to the $20000 range . Pretty handy guy and always looking to try something new , and as you said in video “ save a few bucks “! My only worries was the soffit work which I learned would have to do 1st . Your video blew my mind how easy you made it look and more importantly the confidence to take it on myself . You literally answered every question I had trying to figure out how it’s done .Will hold off on siding till weather warms up but will def jump on the soffit work Thanks for the awesome video , keep them coming . Will give update !

I never ever watch an entire video to learn most things because most of the time the person making the video doesn’t explain things very well. This video was great. I love how you explained why things are done a certain way. Also I love how you say you don’t have a helper because you like to save money and that is the exact reason we are watching your videos to save money. Materials cost me a little under $100 to put in soffit that a company wanted to charge me close to $5k for.

Good video for beginners. Who ever put the roof on was lost on the drip edge it’s lapped wrong direction. If you will make a 45 degree cut when you made the angle notch let it over lap the straight cut at the corner it will look like it’s cut on 45 degree angle. Makes it look much more professional.

Good presentation. 2 things I do different. 1. I use stainless ring shank trim nails, because I've seen, too many times, the aluminum nails have worked their way out. It may be because of the hot and cold climate here. 2. On the underside corners of the fascia, I like to cut a 45 degree. It gives it more of a finished look and you don't have that corner sticking out. Overall, an excellent presentation. Thank!

The problem with installing the bath vent in the soffit, is the moisture is going to go right back thru your vented soffit into your attic space which is a no, no. If you do put the bath vent in the soffit, you need to run unvented soffit for a distance of 6' in both directions before you start back with vented soffit.

Great video. Thank you. I’m installing new soffits and fascia soon. My only suggestion is install the fascia before roofing. Then if you have ice guard you can wrap the ice guard over the top of the fascia. When gutters are installed they will seal against the ice guard. This does a great job sealing the area between the roof and the gutter that is otherwise not protected.

Hey Josh, a cool tip I learned many moons ago..is on corners especially the soffits..when your done wrapping and nail the metal you rip a 1"x1" peice by whatever fascia size is and put a good adhesive silicone on it (not too much..don't want it oozing out) and it hides nails and seals corner nicely.

I’ve always heard never install a bathroom vent in the soffit because the moisture will get drawn into the soffit and cause mold in the rafters/roof.

You're right. You never run vents out of the sophet, and there's absolutely no legitimate reason you would have to. lazy, and if someone tells you differently, they either don't know what they're doing, or they're just lazy and don't want to do it the right way because it's a little little bit more work to put it through the roof where it should be

Thank you I appreciate that! I flip it the way I do so I don’t have to notch the nailing flange around the blocking of the overhang. I hope that helps!

I do it very much the same! So much so that I was almost positive that you learned from my video on how to make a birdbox lmao I'm jk! 2 questions though. I didn't watch all the way through but why the vented soffit up the gable? Everybody typically does solid 1) because there's nothing to vent and 2) because if the neighbors house catches fire significantly less smoke will get in your attic with solid panels. One of my subscribers actually said that it's a code requirement in his area for the smoke reason. And then my last question is why not do the bird box return first, then the eves fascia, then the gable fascia? The reason i do it that way is because you don't have 2 straight cuts on top of each other (the bird box is cut flush and then the gable is also cut flush) the way you did it. I know your way is still water tight but if you switch your first and second order you'd have a flush bird box, then your wrap around, then your gable fascia comes flush to that one. So you actually get to bury the bird box and it looks less bulky and a bit smother. And then one pro tip would be to make sure you 45 both of your 90 degree bottoms. Nicely done though! Nothing hackish here. It's good to see somebody taking pride in their work

Hey Veteran Construction! That’s a lot for watching my video. I have seen some of your videos and I love how you speak your mind and the no BS approach. I just use the vintage soffit to match the eaves of the house. It actually how everyone does it here. That’s interesting about the smoke issue. That is also not a thing here😃. I do that in that order. In this video I already started the facia coming from the other end. I have another fascia video that demonstrates how I usually start that way. Thanks for complementing my work. Same to you. You do a good job as well! Thanks a lot for commenting on my video.

Additionally, 5/8" soffit screws are your friend. No hammer bruising with a miss and when you're 40 feet in the air on a stage or man lift and have to lean just a little bit, a small drill and screws are essential, inconspicuous and a neater job in my opinion than nails. Nails work their way out eventually NOT screws.

This is a EXACTLY what I'll need in about wk or so... This rehab house has many missing soffit & fascia cover or whatever --- and most of the gutters are either missing or detached... So this will be a project that'll get added for when I get ready to work on my roof. 🤦🏻‍♀️ (I'm a single mom of 2 with very very limited $ so it was either DIY rehab home or live out of my tiny subaru 😂😂) This was SUPER helpful. #ThankYou ❤ You've certainly earned my sub.. 💯

Wow... I'm so glad I found you by accident... Great info for a DIY like me... Bought a fixer and literally every onion layer I have peeled back has been done wrong/ failed... I'm constantly having new projects yearly... I do have to do all these repairs soon... 🐝, Bird, wind and you name it showing me how messed up the outside was done also... We are in a different time now... Now is the time for the DIY person... People are lazy, half a**, no morals ect... But they think they have a right to charge what a million $ corporate that warrants their work and are real craftsmanship... Yet they not only have poor quality but ruin your house... It's a mess out here in Knoxville... I get a kick out of my neighbors happy to see a ole lady out here doing it herself...❤️ Thank you.. Thank you for the great videos...
