Hey... in my opinion, Stiebel Eltron are one of the best tankless water heaters in the market. I have a 3 bedroom-3 bathroom house and run hot water for the whole house with a DHC6-2 6KW 240v unit (please bear in mind that I live in the tropics - not the states). I first bought this Stiebel unit back in 2004 and it lasted me 14 years with no maintenance whatsoever at all (as a matter of fact I dont know if it requires maintenance). When this unit broke down (something about some micro-switches and burnt down resistor), I just decided to replace it with the same unit. So replacement was take old one down-put new one in with no hole drilling whatsoever. And I am clearly expecting 14 more years of service with this new one (lol). Best regards!

Thank you. I was a bit confused by the wiring diagram. I have the 29 trend and it calls for (3) 40 amp circuits. The diagram appears to have (2) 8/2 wires and an 8/3 on the far left. This video affirmed my suspicion that the third wire was intended to be a ground. Thank you.

Did this unit end up working out well?

This looks like a great option for when a gas unit is not possible. If you are not getting water that is hot enough, the option is to turn down the flow. In some really cold climates, during the winter, you may even need to go down to one gallon a minute. It's still possible to take a shower but filling a tub can take a while. This is a very small unit and it's not intended for multiple faucets at one time. I called technical support for Stiebel and sent a photo of my (Square D) electric box. Paul Barnard from Stiebel is saying that this requires four slots. Two double pole 40 amp breakers. He is saying you cannot use single pole 40 amp breakers. Again, four slots are required. Two sets of double pole 40s are needed. I called twice and asked the same question. Be careful that you actually have four slots. Don't buy single-pole 40s. The unit might work on single pole 40s. That is not was Stiebel recommends.
@kdub4pres3 жыл бұрын
The Tempra Plus models have a sensor that throttles the water flow automatically to keep the desired temperature. Fwiw.

Make sure you have four slots for double pole 40 amp breakers. That is that their Stiebel tech support told me.

I’ve got the Steiber 12 240v model. It has a three wire hookup in it like the cables you are connecting. However, the cable I have coming from my circuit is a 4 wire cable. Would I connect 3 wires and cap off the 4th wire?
@LewisRenovation2 жыл бұрын
I'd connect both the neutral and ground wires on your 4 wire cable to the ground on the water heater. I'm sure if you called tech support they'd tell you what to do.
Good demonstration! But what are the water supply lines connected to, the main line and a boiler, or a water tank?
@LewisRenovation3 жыл бұрын
Inlet is connected to cold water supply line, outlet is connected to hot water manifold going to each fixture.

It's been a year today since you uploaded this video, how is the Stiebel-Eltron working out for you? How cool is the winter in your area, did it have any trouble through winter?
@LewisRenovation4 жыл бұрын
It works great. Only complaint, which probably applies to all tankless heaters, is that the faucet can't be just slightly open for it to turn on. Winters here are mostly 50's and 60's with occasional dips into the 20's or 30's.

Dear Lewis, I would like to know, if you know of course. Has you measured or asked the Stiebel, if the temperature is set up only for 38 celsius degree,(not to 60 degree), and the device is 18 kw power, is it turning on to 18 kw power, or it is only partially (e.g. 13 kw to reach 38 degrees water? or the water demanding would be modified and the consumption is allways 18 kw/24kw... ? Do you know that? THank you for your answer. Regards Chris

I believe the electrical consumption is relative to the set point and incoming water temperature. Hope this answers your question

The below quote is directly from www.stiebel-eltron-usa.com/products/tempra-series-whole-house-tankless-electric-water-heaters "Self-Modulation Energy Technology "Every Tempra® also has self-modulation. Self-modulation is sometimes confused with flow control, but it has more to do with the amount of energy used to heat the water. Self-modulation, sometimes call auto-modulation, ensures that only the least amount of energy is used at all times. Every Tempra® model continually monitors incoming water temperature, the flow rate of water through the heater, and the water temperature it produces. These sensors feed their readings into the unit’s proprietary microprocessor control which engages the heating elements in stages, as efficiently as possible, to achieve the water temperature set on the front panel, always using the least amount of energy necessary to heat the water." Hope this helps.
@FnixGhod15 жыл бұрын
I just finished mine. The only thing is that my water pressure is so good that on my tub, with a single handle faucet, the flow is too fast for the heater to heat the water (water saver shower head is fine). To save the heater units, it goes to low power mode. I just need to install a flow reduction valve inline to the tub and i'll be good to go!

So I noticed this water heater has one in and one out and the out (according to the description) is hot and the inlet is cold. How do you get the output for cold water?

So when you turn on the Coldwater, the water heater will just know you don’t need hot?

The heater senses flow, so as long as there’s no flow through it due to hot water demand, it won’t turn on

Those breakers you used are not correct. Those are twin single pole not 2 pole. Replace them with (2) 2pole breakers(they will take 4 full slots in your panel, not 2) and connect each set of wires to individual 2 pole breaker(2 white-breaker 1, 2 black-breaker2). The way you have it wired is totally unsafe.
@rustxranch1220 Жыл бұрын
Paul, can't you use 1/2" dual pole breakers like the GE Q-line that consumes 2 full slots instead of 4? Also, any issue binding both grounds to the units ground block?
@ProudDadVet Жыл бұрын
First off, NEVER attempt ANY electrical installation without at least consulting a LICENSED Electrician. I am one, and I cannot tell you how much more it will cost you to have one come out and fix the job you did. 2nd, you MUST install the proper connector in the panel as well, I noticed you just ran the wires through the knockouts in the panel without any means of restraint. That is called a code violation and is just plain dangerous. 3rd... wrapping black electrical tape over the white wires to indicate they are conductors is just a good idea. Just saying. 4th, Neutral wires cannot be landed on a neutral bus with any other wire, ground wires can be loaded up to 3 wires under one screw. Your panel is a mounted code violation..... damn.... and what is that black wire on your Neutral bus???? WOW.
