I think he said their located in Montana so maybe he's got one close or they have it delivered im not 100% sure but their amazing company too work with... Hi Josh. I'm working on very long existing gutters on a hips style roof. I have some concerns about stagnant water, leaky expansion joints and draining capacity. Figuring out how to slope a continuous gutter is confusing. Do I allow it to bend upwards in the middle of each section? It's not a continuous gutter, so we have some spliced sections and you guessed it, they're leaking. I'm not sure if I should just cover over them after cleaning up or if they should be redone with a proper expansion joint. I'm also not sure how I should approach the expansion joints over a 300 ft long section. My guess is that end caps are best, but I'm not sure that will work well with existing downspout locations. Thanks for any reply you might have!

Nice video! May i suggest making a pre cut pattern for when you cut it out of the machine instead of eye balling with the square. Good job!

That's a great option! We do use them. Some of our guys prefer the template and some prefer the speed square

Screws should never be put in at the bottom of the strip miter. Two in the back 4 in the face. Been doing it for over 10 yrs, and never had a leaking miter.

Two in the back and two in the top. Also instead of using your fingers for the sealant they have acid brushes at Harbor freight That work great. 36 brushes for $2.99.

What is the deciding factor on using a strip mider over a miter box? Is that something that the homeowner requested or something that you recommended? Thanks for the tricks and tips. Loving all the content.

well with a miter box you have three seams while a strip miter only makes one so there's a less of a chance for leakage but some homeowners request to their own liking like a hand cut corner.

I recently had a "Gutter Installer" install an inside Strip Miter Joint on one of the sections of my gutters. All the gutters that he installed have barely detectable pitch. I would like to know how is the water supposed to flow over the top of all that glue in the Strip Miter Joint to get to the downspout. I expect when it rains or snow melts that there will always be a puddle in that section of the gutter that cannot drain because it cannot get past all that glue inside the Strip Miter Joint. It does not seem right for a gutter not to be able do drain all the water.

It helps suck in the bottom part of the strip miter, otherwise it is hard to get and stay flush with the bottom of the gutter. Just have to make sure to caulk the screw holes from the inside

What I was thinking. So many hammer shit together flippers out here now committing fraud. Watched a flip house get a new roof, didn’t take up old felt and half came off with shingles, didn’t put new felt on, installed new arch shingles. Feel sorry for the buyers bc the roof will leak eventually.

Good thoughts, but we use sealant around each screw and corner. Therefore our costumers do not have leaking problems

Tony, my name is Rock / I have been Licensed and installing since 1977 in CA. and NEVER used to put screws at the bottom of my Gutters untill I started installing in the Mountains / I found out putting the screws in the bottom makes the strip or box miters ( MUCH ) stronger / just seal the screws from the inside / the first time I did this I just was not sure if I was doing the right thing / now I put screws in the bottom of ALL my corners and I have NO leaks since.

Hand cut miter have a seam too and usually have to be hammer tap’d/touch up paint. Strip miters are the way to go.

Putting screws in the bottom is a rookie mistake. When the sealant fails it will drip drip drip.
