Just did my 10/22 with countersunk holes and put on the Bipod. Very helpful video. Especially helpful was the advice to place the front stud behind the barrel band if installing a bipod. Thanks! Total time from getting the materials together to cleanup was an hour.
@MDTAR152 жыл бұрын
using pliers just scratches up the stud surface (you can see it happen to both studs in the video), do not use pliers. Simply put a small diameter screwdriver or rod trough the hole of the stud and apply pressure while screwing it in place.

Great idea to lubricate the screw! I would recommend beeswax, or mineral oil rather than soap. Over time soap can pull-in moisture from the air.

Got mine installed yesterday. My primary use for the stud was to mount a bipod, so I wound up putting the front stud 2-5/8" rearward from the barrel band. If you read the instructions, they call for using Uncle Mike's #2 wood drill and countersink. So I looked that up and found the set cost $30. Forget that. So I decided to take a slightly different approach. I measured the outer diameter of the white washer to be 3/8". I wanted to recess the white washer so it wasn't visible, especially on the rear stud where it is on the peak of the stock curve. So I used a 3/8" Forstner bit and drilled just deep enough so that the washer was flush. Then I proceeded with the 5/32" bit. The rear I put 2-1/4" from the butt, taking the average of the recommended distance in the instructions. Regretfully, I didn't video anything. Anyway, I would like to again say your video is the most professional on KZbin and gave me the confidence to start drilling. I have seen some pretty bad videos on the same installation.

Great video. Helped me with the instal. The only suggestion I would give, is to measure the depths given in the instructions, on your drill bits and put a piece of tape at those depths on your drill bits. Installing the rear swivel stud, I believe I used an 11/64" at 1/8" depth and a 5/32 at 7/8" depth. Been needed to put a sling on mine for years.

I have had a Stainless 10/22 from when they came out about 25+ years ago. SLING SWIVELS: Since I have several 1903 Springfields I was familiar with those Sling Swivels. Found at a Gun Show some Milled 1903 Style Swivels and Screws, stripped the Bluing off, Buffed and then a lite Satin Clear Coat. Looks Great. Currently has a repro WW2 Tan Canvas Sling for Garands and 1903 Springfield I also put a Stainless Scope on it. I found a Stainless Butt Plate to replace the Black plastic one.

Just finished the sling mounts on my old 10/22. Two tips… Ensure that the hole drilling axis is perpendicular to the surface plane of the stock. It’s an easy thing to overlook. Otherwise the mount won’t fit squarely on the stock. Also, if you’re careful about doing this, you can turn in the mount by putting the head of the mount in the chuck of a LOW SPEED drill motor.
@marklehinger68648 жыл бұрын
Why did you not use the Uncle Mike's swivel sling made for the 10/22 which attaches to the barrel band? Then you would only have to drill one stud for the buttstock.

Excellent video, but one critique. I would not use pliers to get the studs started. It looks like you marred them up bit. Wrapping electrical tape around the pliers is one solution or just use downward pressure with your allen wrench.

One Note: When you put the screw outside the barrel band you can't slide the barrel band back on, at least on the models with a metal barrel band. I didn't try to pry the band open very far, as I didn't know how well the metal band would handle the bending. So now I have an extra hole... Not the video author's fault - just something to think about. I like the use of tape to sort the wandering drill bit!

One question. Does putting the stud in front of the barrel band make it difficult to get the barrel band back on? Will it stretch open wide enough without snapping? Good video other wise.
@schutendohkji5483 жыл бұрын
Should of used a piece of rod thru the eye of the stud to screw it in. The pair of pliers can mar the stud's finish. Just put a piece of cardbrd onto its jaw but this can b a bit slippery. Yah, it maybe hard to get the screw-in started. but as long as the tap drill is of correct size, should b OK. I did like ur mentioning where to put a stud in consideration w a rifle rest/tripod. I would suggest to use a drill press instead of a hand drill and a punch to assure better drilling. Using a scotch tape however is good too. Thx 4 the video!

How do you get the barrel band off now that you've got the swivel studs in front of it? What would the disadvantage have been to mount it behind the band on the thicker part of the stock?
@ZRUSOutdoorsChannel8 жыл бұрын
The barrel band on mine is plastic, so it opens up and slides over the stud. the further down that you mount the stud on the stock, the more the rifle will want to lean the barrel back away from your head.. The closer to the muzzle and it will stand upright. So i always try to mount the stud as close to the end of the stock as possible.
