It's a cool feature to have if you own a e85 z4 like me but it's a bit much for newer BMW cars. I can see why someone with an older car would want digital but the newer BMW cars are fancy enough. Analog will always work best in my opinion. The less tech you have, the less it breaks. Mechanical things are just easier to fix.

What's wrong with the analogue cluster. Seems like just another thing to break. The standard dials have been tried and tested. Still looks good to me.

I have yet to see a digital cluster to fail. These aren't your cheap aftermarket solutions.

Well digital cluster indicates oil temp so that alone is worth not having to add an aftermarket gauge that isn’t included into the dashboard

I was planning on doing this but was told if you take your car to the dealership and they happen to reset your ECU, you'd lose all the coding? Does BimmerTech offer re-coding if that happens? Also I was told this voids your warranty if you still have one...

I would think so. I have a 15 335i that is a manual. You can select whether to display the gear you are in or not. I can't see losing that feature from the IDrive as all you are replacing is the instrument cluster

Personally, I don't dig this digital display mumbo jumbo in a car, which should provide pleasure while driving. Gauges have that special something when it comes to looks inside sporty cars.

The gauges in a car mist remain old fashioned to me. They are a piece of craftsmanship on expensive cars. All virtual gauges are cheaply to manufacture and will always look fake

I'm with you, bmw just looks old for some reason, nothing but a digital speedo and tac honestly. With Audi you can bring up navigation on the entire screen. The MMI seems better developed as it's just a plane screen but must admit the fuel gauge looks bad.

hugo chen I’d take a 6 cylinder anyway over a 4. Insurance will be high for both cars since it’s a BMW, and you’re 16 so probably around $7000/yr. That would be where most of the annual cost is, not the negligible $300 you’d save per year by buying a 4 cylinder BMW. I’m looking at a 2017 G30 530d as my next car, but I’ll need to wait till I’m 22 for insurance to be good for any BMW (I’d have 6 yrs of driving experience then). My old highschool friends who did buy BMWs straight away (one bought a F10 525i, and another a E34 525i) all pay ludicrous amounts of insurance. They’ve also paid more for repairs in a single year than I have paid for fuel + maintenance/repairs since I bought my 2016 FGX Falcon XR6 new when I was 17. When I started driving, it cost $1600/yr to insure my car worth $35,000 AUD with full comprehensive + no excess windscreen cover, it cost the dude who bought the $25,000 F10 $5000/yr for the very same insurance without windscreen cover. My neighbours own a F15 X5 xDrive30d, a F10 LCI 535d in addition to other luxury cars, and they pay $2000/yr for full comp with all options as a point of reference.

Is the mileage stored on your dash or elsewhere on the BMW's inbuilt computer? The last thing id want is to install one of these only to find its messed with the cars genuine mileage, then having to explain to potential buyers what's been done and why that was tampered with.
