Great video and explanation. Do you find the backing mdf to be a bit thin and flimsy? Is there a way to strengthen it? Can I use a thicker mdf or melamine back?
@kitchensbyrannes2 ай бұрын
Thanks. Nope, flimsy will do it. Don't spend energy on it 🤗
@parasher2122 ай бұрын
Would you recommend using glue for dowels and edges to increase overall strength of the cabinet?

Short answer: no, not necessary.

Hi Rannes, Thank you for making this amazing videos. Love those ❤. I need your advice on Sektion Tall cabinets legs and rail, are those essential or can I skip it? I just purchased two Sektion 30 x 24 x 80 and I plan to leave the bottom 15" open to put 4 LUSTIGKURRE baskets. My room's ceiling is short, the clear height is 82" and don't have enough space to put the legs. Since I don't plan to have door or drawer in the bottom 15", can I install cabinets without legs and rail in the back?
@kitchensbyrannes4 ай бұрын
I'm glad you like the videos. Do you mean that the cabinet will be standing on the floor? If you ceiling height is only 82", you will not be able to assemble it on the floor and lift it up, as the diagonal is 83.5" 😱 You must assemble it upright. Scary stuff right there. Not easy. You'll need minimum one helper.
@vishnupriyatambe96754 ай бұрын
@@kitchensbyrannes thank you for quick response. yes that’s right, I am thinking of putting cabinets directly on the floor without any legs. So Those will be standing on the floor. Since height is too less instead of using rail I am thinking of using toggle anchors in the back. What’s your thoughts on both adjustment?
@kitchensbyrannes4 ай бұрын
You're welcome. Both will work but I suggest to put the cabinet minimum ½" off the floor for doors and drawers to open freely. But notice what I said about assembly. You'll need to assemble the cabinet upright. Not easy. If you do it on the floor lying down, you cannot raise it up. Will hit your ceiling, if you have 82" all over.
@vishnupriyatambe96754 ай бұрын
@@kitchensbyrannes thank you so much for your advice. I will keep your guidance in mind and assemble it upright. You are the best 🙌

Thanks for your videos. I just bought 2 Sektion high cabinets 2 days ago. Ikea people told me to buy both toekicks and legs which I did. But by seeing your video that you only used legs. I also saw your other video for testing the legs. Does it mean I only need to use either toekicks or legs?
@kitchensbyrannes5 ай бұрын
You're welcome. No, you need both. Toekicks is just a front which is clipped onto the legs.

I've bought the 80'' high pantry H2D4I that has 2 doors with interior drawers (424.640.88). Some questions if I may: A) are there any reason that I could not have the 30'' high door above the 50'' door, instead of the reverse? B) I'm right in thinking that the shelf has to be installed at the height where both doors meet? C) Are there tricks to not loose space under the bottom drawer because of the conflict of its slides with the door's lower hinge? Thanks!
@kitchensbyrannes5 ай бұрын
Hi Sandra. Here are some answers. 1) No problem at all, that's what most do. 2) Yes, that's what I do because then I know it won't be moved and I can give it a few nails from the back. 3) The position of the hinge is given but you can lower the drawer slides a tiny bit by using the lower holes on the slide and hole number 4 (from the bottom) in the cabinet. You may have to fine-tune the height of the drawer front, to it's maximum height position to clear the top of the hinge.

Great videos! Don't use nails to fix the middle shelf, use screws. There's even the right screws on the market for this. When cleaning the cabinet, you will not loosen the nails and then stuff is going to fall behind the shelf and so on. Some like to push stuff very deep into the cabinet to sit flush with the back panel. This will also loosen the panel fixed with nails.
@kitchensbyrannes3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the tip. Another way if doing things, is always worth considering. However, I'll stick with nails, for a number of reasons. First, it's intended to be done that way so nails are included, screws not. Second. Nails are holding up fine. You have to press real hard to push out the nail, and if you do, the nail will often tear a hole in the back and leave the nail in the shelf. I know that's due to a smaller head on the nail, compared to a flathead screw. Third, and most importantly. Should you one day decide to relocate the shelf, which can happen, you can get away with it without too much hassle as you gently, put firmly, push on the back until the nails pops out.

@@kitchensbyrannes Maybe my tipp is even more applicable to Billy.

Could be. Billy is a lot more flimsy than kitchen cabinets.

I followed the instruction and I added the legs while it was on the floor so they broke each time I try to make it vertical. You did the right job to at the legs after it is standing

Mine is falling apart less than a year having it how do I reinforce the shelves? And the whole thing

Without seeing the cabinet, it's hard to give advice. If it falls apart after one year only, I'm certain it's not installed correctly.

I have a 18''x80'' pantry with 4 drawers on the lower 50'', that has a fridge on its right and nothing on its left. Does it have to be anchored to the floor? Thanks

Thank you for your question. No, not necessary. I rarely do that in the situation you describe, unless I have an extra island brackets and I think it will add value to put it to use in a situation like that.

I have a large niche where an old shower was, and the depth is 33inches - the largest ikea cabinet is 24inches deep, I want it flush with the wall but what do I connect the railing to if there is 9 inches empty space between cabinet and wall?
@kitchensbyrannes4 ай бұрын
Thank you for your question. You simply build a structure at the wall on which you can install the rail. The depth of the structure must be equal to the distance you want to push the cabinet forward.

Your videos are great! Tall cabinet question: for wall oven cabinet, do you cut out the back panel where the wall oven will sit? If so, do you cut it out while it is on the floor as you assemble the cabinet? Or do you cut the area out after the high cabinet for the oven/s is upright? Thanks.
@kitchensbyrannes3 жыл бұрын
Thanks JL. For pantry cabinets where an oven are to be installed, I do not cut the back panel during assembly as Ikea suggest. I assemble the cabinet as normal and I do not cut away the back before I have determined the final position of the enforced shelf on which the oven will sit. Only then you'll know where to make the cut. An oscillating tool is great for cutting this.

Why only 2 legs?

I only put on two legs before leveling. Then, when all is level, the two legs at the wall goes on.
