The BRK 86RACs were state of the art for their day. Pretty cool to replace with i12010s

My grandparents had the Kidde Worry Free in the bedroom where the security panel was in their old house. Before, there was a Lifesaver F900D. Same in the Hallway. The hallway smoke alarm was replaced with a Kidde Smoke and Co that is like this alarm but different a little before they replaced it.

I would also like to add, their security system was a Safe House 4 Zone Burglar Alarm system. And they are Very Rare!

See my reply above, the ten year one cannot be mounted onto a standard receptacle as far as I can tell.

Sick of that sporadic 2am beeping from a smoke detector that needs a new battery? That's so old school. Check out the *Kidde Worry Free Smoke Detectors* in my fun installation video and fix the darn problem for 10 years!

I bought a Kidde smoke + CO detector. No wires, and no way to install onto the old receptacle. Frustrating!
@AskDaveTaylor7 жыл бұрын
How was your old unit affixed to the ceiling? or was it a completely self-contained unit?
@rainchains24797 жыл бұрын
old unit installed exactly like your video, two screws that line up with the box. The new Kidde ten-year detectors have a small central mounting plate that is attached with a single screw mount. This does not match the standard receptacle like you had in the video, nor did it match mine. It literally cannot be mounted onto a standard box without some trickery. It's meant for "anywhere on the ceiling", apparently. Ideas?

You got the battery only version. Look on the box to make sure they say Hardwired

Turn off power to the whole house? What a nonsensical suggestion. If a person can't even figure out what circuit everything in their house is on, they should not be interacting with their home wiring at all and instead call a pro, who by the way, WON'T turn power to the whole house off!
@AskDaveTaylor8 жыл бұрын
+Stinky Cheese sorry you feel that way, but that's actually the recommendation of Kidde too. And I'd rather turn off all the power and not have to worry about it than realize I flipped the wrong switch and zap myself. Not everyone's a journeyman electrician, but that doesn't mean they can't succeed at this upgrade!
@stinkycheese8048 жыл бұрын
+Dave Taylor Frankly, I think I'd rather zap myself on a rare occasion, than have to go around resetting all the clocks/devices that reset to 12:00 when power goes off if whole house power was cut for every trivial thing like this, BUT, I also feel anyone who wants to undertake wiring, should own and know how to use a multimeter which can measure whether there's power present still. If a person can't do any of that, how can you be sure they're competent to figure out whether they've cut power to the whole hose or not? Additionally it should be mentioned that owners of past generation kidde alarms, those replacing them on the timetable recommended which is 10 years, may not have to wire a new connector or base plate at all, just unplug the old smoke alarm and plug the new one in then it mounts the same on the existing base plate.
