Man lots of plumbing sins in this one. First off every trap should have an Air Admittance Valve above it which isn’t even mentioned in this video. The Teflon is completely unnecessary and will actually cause leaks when applied like this. Use a rubber gasket for tubular drain piping. Most modern tubular comes with one in the package already. Holy hell man don’t ever thread PVC to galvanized. If you don’t want to replace the galvanized just use a fernco. Definitely follow this guys advice if you want to end up spending money on a plumber anyways.

The washer you used on the sink tailpiece is not the correct one dude you need the flat one that drops into the tailpiece and you dont ever put teflon tape on that part maybe on the galvanized pipe because its corroded and will help the washers tip form more to the corroded pipe but here in south florida we mostly use one and a half inch pvc pipe and slap a marvel connector on there.

8:04 *sigh* I'm such a hypocrite. I didn't have to be such an ass. I do want to point out that the use of teflon tape (the correct use) seems to be a very confusing and highly debated topic. However, there are specific situations where teflon tape is crucial, and others where it either does nothing or can harm an installation. I am 95% confident that this is an incorrect use of teflon tape and could cause problems for other people. Those gaskets are the seal and should be completely clean and free of all debris, including teflon tape, when tightening the fittings.
@HugoCorrea
@HugoCorrea 3 жыл бұрын
You are right in the perfect scenario you have several parts to replace the ones with issues and I normally install without Teflon but there are those factory defects that make you use extra products. Thank you for the information

what i dont understand is with this contraption the parts that you screw together. . .there aren't any threads to the connecting pieces. . so really the only thing holding the pipes together is the friction between the O rings and the ring itself. i know this first hand b/c i've installed it correctly, had pipes that severely backed up, and then from the force of gravity + the weight of the water in the pipes, had the O ring slip off, followed by a huge amount of water leaking. this contraption altho recommended by everyone, makes no sense to me = /

He's obviously using the physics of the pipe entering the wall to support the entire arrangement by keeping the drain outlets very short. Good idea. The compression idea behind these plastic rings and the grip rings seems to require very specific conditions.

For those wondering, you're typically supposed to match fittings. In other words, use a metal nut to screw on a metal pipe. He uses a plastic nut to thread onto metal, and that's *probably* why he's got nearly 20% thumbs down.

@cassielam2868
@cassielam2868 Жыл бұрын
Technically and functionally you are incorrect. If you were to match material your drain cups would have to be plastic or your drain pipes would be metal. These fittings are designed for low pressure seal forces so dissimilar material contact variations due to difference in material will be negligible. The softer material is actually designed to deform to a compression over the harder material. If in doubt, please contact the manufacturer. Can't believe what everyone states in KZbin as fact. Where I come from, thumbs have no brains.

- I have the same drain types for my double sink at my kitchen. For some reason it dont work and its not draining like your video.... When I ran the water and I only use one side of the sink, instead of directly draining the water to the waste pipe, the water will go to the other side of the sink, filling both sink at the same time. Theres is no drain blockage because when I plug the no erator sink with a cover and turn-on my erator sink on the other side; the water start draining. Addtly, if I dont cover my no erator sink, then turn-on the water on the erator sink, the water start pulsating on the other non erator sink and this time the water is not drainh . Any advice, please help...

you are 100% correct about an air gap. and the tee in the drain line is also installed incorrectly...the drain tee may only installed in the vertical drop. you may not allow the drainage to run into an opposing flow. this would never pass a proper plumbing inspection. this guy would not make a pimple on a plumbers ass.
