When I open a 3rd Party Airport in WED, like Aerosoft - EDDF Frankfurt, from the list I get a blank screen, that is 'no current airport'. If I then import apt.dat from the subject scenery then only the airport is displayed but then again after saving and exporting I lose the scenery as it is replaced by defualt scenery. The mods that I made in WED work perfectly though. One of the best tutorials I have watched here on KZbin. I am sure I am doing something wrong, guidance required. Thanks for a great tutorial.

Sorry I forgot to mention that WED saves everything to an xml file when you save the airport. However, if you are opening a new airport where an xml file has not been saved previously you need to import two files "apt.dat" and and ".dsf" file. You will find under the file menu in WED a function to import .dsf file. This file will be located in your earth nav data folder within another folder with gps coordinates. The folder will look something like "+40-080" depending on your airport coordinates. Inside this folder will be a .dsf file. You need to import this to get the airport structures.

What if the custom scenery airport says that is says it is SAM ready and it only needs the plugin and I have the plugin but it still doesn’t say that a gate is available..

i have a problem with aerosoft Manchester scenery, the gate works but when i want to configure the gate the gate ends up in the fuselage of the aircraft. do you know how to fix this?

Did you install the gateway or was it already there. The gateway and the ramp start (gate) need to be perfectly aligned on top of each other (the cross hairs). Use WED to align them.

How did you load the Aerosoft EDDF into WED? When I open WED and want to edit the Aerosoft EDDF I simply cant do so, WEd also doesnt list the Airport as a WED Airport

Simpy open WED. Click button at bottom to "Choose x-plane folder". A list of Custom Scenery airports will display in a list providing you have the right directory selected for x-palne 11. Select Aerosoft EDDF from the list and click button at bottom "Open Scenery Package"

@@bobblack4604 Bob Black I did that and it opens EDDF in WED but it doesnt load the Airport, in my WED the Aerosoft EDDF is listed as "Airport" as Nice for example at 6:03, and not listed as WED Airport as EDDF at 6:03

@@Alexander-hk5ke You are right. The airport information needs to be saved as an xml file in order for WED to read it. What you need to do is open the airport from the list as I explained previously. If it is blank, you need to import the apt.dat file and the dsf file. From the WED file menu select "Import apt.dat" and navigate to "Earth nav data " folder under custom scenery/ EDDF/Earth nav data/. After you import the apt.data file, use WED file menu to "import dsf". Navigate to folders under Earth Nav data for EDDF and open folders +40+000 and select .dsf file and do the same for .dsf file in +50+000 folder. Once you import .apt file and .dsf files save it. This will create an xml file so any edits you make will be saved to the .xml file and now when you open airport it will open all the details in the airport and make it available to edit.

I'm a little confused. I'm building an airport from scratch. I'm confused on which jetways to use while in WED. Do I use misterx's autogate jetways or do I use Sam jetways? Do I need to buy the worldjetways pack?

I would use MisterX jetways as the SAM jetways don't seem to work with my favorite plane FFA320. You don't need to buy the worldjetways plugin to build the jetways but the worldjetways plugin is needed to use the jetways for the default airports and works for MrX autogate jetways.

@@Kreemerz I don't know. I haven't had time to test Zibo. I use the World Jetways plugin now and Mr. X jetways. Haven't had time to experiment with the SAM jetways to see what they can and can't do. They don't work with FFA320 so I don't use them.

Yes, SAM works with the Zibo. You have to use WED and the sam suite plug in and then use the SAM jetways. Works great.

Yes it is somewhat confusing. Here's what I would do. If I am adding gates just for myself and I have the jetways plugin, I would add Mr. X Autogates. It's fast and easy. If you are creating an airport for others (everyone to use) I would add the autogate with the marshallers etc (not SAM)

Nice tutorial and info Bob. Just should've spent 2 more minutes and explained the other Left Side dropdowns on the AOS of the SAM Plugin other than just the Parking and Jetway activation. None-the-less, $20 for the SAM World Jetways package is a value.

Really interesting video, but I am really struggling to find the marker you click on in order to select and delete the original gateways.

Depends what airport you are working on and what the developer put in as the gateways. Many look like lines and will be called "facade nodes". In the video they are clearly visible but many airports the gateways just appear as lines.

@@Sorarse Watch around minute 13 of the video. You will see a little green cross hair. Click on the little green cross hair to select the auto gate(s) and hit delete on the keyboard.

You have to download the airport first either directly from scenery gateway gateway.x-plane.com/ or you can import into WED by creating a new airport, opening it an importing from scenery gateway using file menu "import from scenery gateway"

Sorry I missed this question now nine months old. In case you haven't figured it out yet- Yes you can import most airports from scenery gateway. When you open WED click "New Scenery Package". It will be called untitled. Give it a name i.e. the name of the airport you want to make. Select the line and click Open Scenery Package. It will be blank. Under file menu select "import from Scenery Gateway". In the search bar type the airport code to bring up versions of the airport. Select next. It will bring up a list of all the versions of the airport available that developers have made. Choose one that has status "Recommended" and click "Import Packs". Click "Save" from the file menu so that you have an .xml version of the airport for opening in the future and go ahead and make the mods you want and save it. When you have finished making all the mods choose "Export Scenery Pack" from the file menu and voila you have your new airport.

Grazie tante, bellissimo turorial un po complicato per me che parlo solo italiano, il mio problema è che ho installato SAM World Jetways plugin faccio partire xplane apro la tendina plugin _SAM Airport Operation System clicco su parking ma non da segni di vita e le porte rimangono grigie. e non va avanti. Nell'aeroporto lirf in un gate il cancello è attaccato alla porta se tolgo il freno di parcheegio il cancello si stacca, però ripeto il plugin non funziona. grazie per l'eventuale aiuto.

I use Traffic Global by Just Flight for AI aircraft. I have found it superior to anything else out there and particularly if you are using Pilot2ATC - it recognizes the AI aircraft and will issue you appropriate ATC commands for hold short, line up and wait etc. www.justflight.com/product/traffic-global-xplane-windows

@@yunrisnaaditya5554 Do you have the World Jetways plugin? All the default airports from xplane work with this plugin. You do not need to install any autogate. The autogate from MisterX libraries is only for airports that are custom airports and where the developer did not install autogates. In those cases you need to replace the gates with those from MisterX Library.

You don't delete the folder just the file apt.dat and the .dsf file but it's not really necessary to delete them as they will be overwritten when you export scenery. I deleted them just to prove they are replaced but it isn't necessary. Don't delete the folders.

It's not like it's expensive and adds autogate to all default airports. It also makes it easier to add SAMS at custom airports that don't have autogates by using Mr. X's autogate library (free)

Did you install World Jetways plugin? Does the plugin work on default airports? Some airports in their design have the jetways too far from a parked plane for world jetways to connect to plane but most airports are no problem. Follow instructions carefully on installing world jetways as you need to uninstall previous versions of sam plugin. Did you try creating your own jetway with Mr X? I don't know what your set up is when you say it doesn't work. Need more information.
