My husband passed away recently and he was always the one to fix things (I was the tool fetcher/light holder). Thanks to your wonderful video, I was able to fix the throttle cable on my own, saving $120 labor. I'm sure he is smiling down on me and applauding. Thank you so much! God bless you!

Thanks for the video. It got me through the throttle replacement. NOTE: Depending on which similar Cub Cadet you have, make sure the wiring block that connects to the ignition key switch is STILL CONNECTED upon reassembly. I had to take it all apart again and plug the wiring block in and re-reassemble.

would like to thank you for putting this on video. recently our cub cadet's throttle broke and we were looking at taking it to the shop, where we purchased it from. we would have had to travel 70 miles round trip to drop it off and wouldn't have gotten the mower back for 5 weeks....that's what they told us when i called there. when you are out in the country and the grass is growing at a high rate of speed...that would be unacceptable... thanks to your video, we were able to order the part and pick it up in 3 days...your step by step instructions are a life saver...thank you so much

Very comprehensive video on showing how to remove the steering wheel and shroud so thanks for that. Just FYI, you can actually just disconnect the throttle cable at the engine and then the throttle control lever panel can just be pried out (carefully of course). Not sure if this is the approved method but a lawnmower repair shop showed me that trick. Cheers.

That's exactly what I did. I disconnected the cable at the throttle linkage then simply pried the entire throttle control assembly from the dashboard. Now, if I could only find a YT vid on how to replace the carb and fuel lines on this particular XT2, I'd be very happy.

cheap pice of plastic 61 hours on my mower and it broke . I got my new one off weingartz on ebay for 42 dollars for cub cadet OEM part ordered on monday got it on wednesday from michigan to vA and installed that day . back up and running . I am ordering an extra one . My 2016 has a metal throttle cable cub cadet also I just took out my gas tank to replace my throttle cable . took me about 2 hours and that was draining gas by the way I am a 70 year old woman . I watch your videos all the time but did not see this one because our power substation was hit by lightning so no power . But it was easy to do it my way . I put my whole front cable on first with the throttle handle and ran the cable around by the old one and then loosened it in the front . IT WORKED AND I MOWED

Looks VERY similar to my Craftsman pro series 46-inch lawn tractor, Model #247204420. Well, both are allegedly made by MTD. I am going to try and pry the plastic unit using 2 small screwdrivers although you did an excellent job of demonstrating how to take things apart. In my case, the throttle cable seems to be jammed since I can no longer move the control arm up from the idle position. I wonder if there could be corrosion someplace?🤔
@JohnsonsSmallEngines5 ай бұрын
The problem with the throttle cable is it sits across the muffler up in front of the engine and corrodes then seizes up. I’m pretty sure that’s where the issue is most of the time. Other reason would be if the machine sits outside, in a wet environment, sits outside or the machine is washed too often. All moisture related.
@Gomoboo5 ай бұрын
@JohnsonsSmallEngines - Thanks. Not exposed to rain or washed very seldom but have owned it since June 2017 (300 hrs). Live in Hawaii about 800 feet from salt water bay. Anyway, I took it out and used Blaster rust buster, and it looks like I'm back in business without spending $80+ dollars for part + shipping from Sears Parts Direct, Cadet, MTD, etc. Unsure to trust the knock-offs carried by Amazon. Great videos. Please keep them coming 🙂👍

Are there any differences when you don't have an automatic choke?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines2 жыл бұрын
That is a good question that I cannot answer. These machines don’t have too many issues with the throttle cables and I have not yet come across the other type. If it is the same tractor model I will assume it should be close to the same.

You can also turn this into a quick 5 minute job! Disconnect your throttle cable linkage on the engine (8mm bolt). Use a thin metal finger nail file. Pull the throttle housing slightly outward. Slip the finger nail file in the housing seam and one by one depress the four plastic tabs while pulling the throttle housing outward. It will easily pop out! Pop the new throttle housing and route the cable. Then reconnect throttle cable to the linkage. I replaced mine in about 5 minutes. Tools= 8 mm socket and a thin metal finger nail file.

I had my yearly service done last week (oil, blades, lubricated...). The next day, the throttle broke (plastic in the lever broke). I replaced the throttle myself because the jerk who did the service was so freaking defensive. When starting, it went from trying to turn over and not starting to simply giving a click sound when turning the key. After a lot of checking voltages, found the starter wasn't working. Replaced that today. Again it wasn't turning over completely. I tightened the new throttle and now I think I killed another starter. Is that possible? Just a click when I turn the key. HELP. Please don't make me call the jerk who charged me for service last week.

if you use a pair of heavy putty knives like a 5 in 1 tool you can gently pry on both sides of the cable lever it will pop loose from the dash. if it breaks who cares ( i've not broke one yet ), you're replacing it. the main thing is not to damage the dash. this eliminates having to remove the steering wheel & dash. the routing & carb end hook up instructions are dead on. these cables aren't the best. i've already replaced 3.

Must be something about the plastic throttle? I bought a zero turn not even a year old and it's broke. Good thing it has a 3 year warranty.
@JohnsonsSmallEngines3 жыл бұрын
I think I may have found the issue was, no heat shield near muffler and if the cable had any moisture in it it would start to seize. Once I was able to look at the old cable, I found it was seized, then the cable broke out of the plastic housing. If you have the same set up where the cable is sitting over the exhaust? Keep an eye on it.
